Drive thru car washes

I just got my camaro a week ago and I have over $100 in free wash coupons at a drive in wash down the street from my house. They did a great job on my 1998 Ford Escort but I did not care or notice of they scratched it. I heard DO NOT take a new car through a drive-thru car wash because they tend to scratch/damage newer cars. Did anyone try it out on a 5th gen? Is it safe? I dont wanna find out the hard way.

I just got my ride 2 weeks ago tomorrow and have already washed it 5 times and 1 of those was threw an auto and it was fine but doesn't quite get dry all the way and left water marks. No scratch's though, I guess I just went to a crummy wash. Had better piece of mind putting the TLC into her and getting it the way I want it. This **** oak pollen is killin me!

the problem with auto car washes is, sometime a vehicle will go through and a small almost molecular piece of sharp debris can get into the cloths and that can cause bad scratching...honestly the only reason i ever go to the auto car washes is for the undercarriage wash cuz thats usually a p.i.t.a. to do in my driveway

I believe that a wash that does NOT touch the car with brushes or rags but uses only high pressure sprays, will not hurt the finish. But from what I have heard this kind of wash is not available in all parts of the country. I have been through my local touchless wash 15 times since last fall and my Camaro looks like new. How many of you have seen this kind of car wash?
