This is the first performance mod Bumble Bee is getting. This part eliminates that annoying 1-4 shift the car does at slow take offs. Once installed you will be able to always shift 1-2. It was $29.95 free shipping. When it comes to parts my brand is SLP. This install was actually slightly easier than the 4th gens were. For some reason I remember having to peel back silver heat tape on the 4th gen. If you are reading this and considering doing it yourself it is a plug and play set up. Remember to use jackstands for safety Camaro people need to stay safe. I think this install took me about 20 minutes. The hardest part is getting the floor jack to the car.

I always get excited when I get home to find this at the front door.

Inside the skip shift eliminator and the 160 stat that I will install later.

Its sort of hidden at the top behind the black harness

Located on the drivers side midway on the TR6060 towards the top.

It simply unplugs

Once done it will look something like this. SLP made the length perfect so its tucked away pretty good. I took the car for a drive and it works fine.

so far I haven't seen it. The GTO and our other 4th gens still show the message. I tried several times to make it do it and I never saw the message on this Camaro.

I was able to pay closer attention to it today also checked the owners manual.

It says once the car reaches 169 degrees is when it becomes operational. I did notice today it showed the message in the DIC. The eliminator allowed me to put in 2:5go:

I was wondering about the lower temp keeping the skip shift from meeting the parameters to engage.

Another nice feature in this car is in the DIC you can scroll to a digital temp reading that seems accurate, once I have the 160 stat in and tuned I'll know what temp the car is running. My 2000 SS has the skip shift and the 160 stat and I notice sometimes the message still appears.

I've always wondered with this mod, if the 1-4 shift only happens at low throttle, is it just a nuisance? Would this mod drop the MPG a little? Just curious.

While I have no real evidence, I have always figured you'd get worse mileage by engaging the 1-4 skip. For it to happen, you need to be driving under such a light load, that to go from 1st to 4th and continue accelerating requires you to feed quite a bit more fuel since the RPMs are so low with such high (numerically lower) gearing.

Again, this is why this mod has never been installed in any of my T56 vehicles. I do not drive with such a light load even in normal traffic for it to activate.

1-4 really sucks... no matter how slowly i engage the clutch, the engine bogs down.
If your going easy enough on the throttle for it to force the 1-4, your going very slow, and 4th gear is waaaay off. i just sit in 1st or wait in N for it to allow me to go into 2nd.

basically, i really need the slp part or a tune

Great write up, love the detailed pics!

I noticed that some of you mentioned that the light was still comung on in the cluster, the only way I know if getting rid of that is by having the car tuned.

Err just read it will trigger SES light. So I stand corrected.

I picked mine up Saturday, I didn't even realise this feature was on the manual box, confusing even mor eto know that it works at gentler throttle applications-It didn't happen on my drive Sat, I am actually going to try and make it happen....just so I can experience it for myself!!

Ok, bearing in mind that I havent used half throttle yet, only once did I see the 1st to 4th come up on the display-but I only saw it for a split second and I was already going for 2nd-it went into 2nd effortlessly....please tell me I haven't broken something?

For those that have the skip shift eliminator, does it effect the Reverse from being blocked? I have noticed that R is blocked until you are stopped, making it easier to find 5 and 6. I want to get rid of the 1-4 forced shift, but not the R blocked. Just wondering if any of you have noticed before I order one. Thanks.

Almost all (modern, anyway) manual transmissions have R blocked when the vehicle is moving forward. It's a safety thing.

Ahh, cool. I traded in a 06 Eclipse GT for the SS. It had a ring you had to pull up to get to R. The wife's Kia barely will go into R at any time, but does that all the time.

I'll just suck up the $20 bucks to stay in good standing with Summit. Too bad they are slightly different, Summit does the price match thing for the same products.

Ahh. Well..my G5 won't let you go into R when the car is moving at a decent speed...but there's no reverse lockout when it's stopped.

There is a solenoid that keeps the tranny from going into reverse when the car is moving forward. You can see it in one of the pics on the lower side of the tr6060

Well it should be here tomorrow according to UPS. I will definitly refer to your pix for the install.

Wife stalled it out yesterday in an intersection when it tried to make her shift, now she said she doesnt even want to drive it. I dont think I'll tell her about the little mod.

Best 5 minute mod ever.

Put it in and took it around the block. I showed that car who's boss, trying to tell me 1-4, oh no-no. Put it right into 2nd with the display on right in my face. It was like I heard the computer die a little inside.

A lot of snow and ice so sometimes hitting it just doesnt work out here. Plus it always came on for me when I'm not looking at the DIC.
