Just wondering if others out there will be using their Camaro as a year around car - even if you live in areas that have cold winters and snow?

My plan is to see how many years I can go without turning on the windshield wipers, let alone driving it in the snow.

Mine will never see snow. At least while I own it. I don't even like to run it in the rain. It really messes up the underside. It will be in the garage covered up in October.

Come on people its a camaro not a 250k sports car. A camaro is meant to be a daily driver, if its not whats the point. just my opinion, to each his own

I agree completly , I cant imagine storing this car all the time and only driving it sometimes thats a waste of money in my opinion , you should get a beater car for the winter thats what I,m doing , if you drive it in the winter you will bust the front air dam and lower bumper all up

I'm considering a beater, but for now plan A is to drive it in all weather.

You can not drive it here most of the time in winter,,,we can get 10ft of snow or more,,loads of salt on the road....back out May 1st

I'll be driving my 2010 year round, the 2000 Z28 is my nice weather only car. In the next month or so I've got to get at least all season tires and I'm considering 18" wheels with snow tires. Now I am lucky that I work from home most of the time so if we have a blizzard or heavy snow coming I won't be out in it.

Obviously, it depends on each person's own situation what he or she wants to do with the car.
Why should I put 100 miles a day on a car that needs $400 tires that can't be rotated, gets 20mpg when gas is $3 a gallon, and is just screaming out to the morons of the world "please dent me?" Obviously, if I lived in a smaller town, and my commute was five miles, it would be a different story.
I just sold a car I put 85,000 miles on in 10 years, and looked almost as pretty as the day I bought it, for almost 35% of what I paid for it. Try doing that after you've pounded it for 10 years.
If I'm polite enough not to call the people who are going to spend $40,000 on a "daily driver" gas guzzler, be polite enough not to insult my intelligence.
K? THX.

Windshield wipers will dry rot if you don't use them. My 02 SS stays in the garage most of the time. I haven't used the wipers in quite some time. But when I was washing it one day a few months ago, I lifted the arms and both wiper inserts separated and drooped. So those had to be replaced.
Doesn't do good for a car to sit for long periods. This is a fact. I think people should use the car as they see fit, and I don't have an issue either way of either driving the wheels off of it or minimally using the car. Personally speaking, we're going to drive our new Camaro, rain or shine. But it will live its life in a garage while at home, and that goes a long way into preserving more of the original looks and prevents a lot of sun damage.
I've always been of the philosophy that if it's not a rare model, and you want a car just to sit and look at, buy a scale model of it. If you can't afford the gas and tires to do with what you really want to do with it, then you're living beyond your means and should perhaps buy a Cobalt SS instead and use the difference you save for gas and tires.

Right. I can afford another car to abuse as my daily driver, but I'm living beyond my means because I don't want to put a set of tires on my Camaro every year and spend a ton of money on gas that I don't need to.
Brilliant.

That wasn't me.
Why is it that you always feel that if someone has an opinion, it's automatically about you? Instead of scoffing at opinions you disagree with and taking shots at the people who have them, you may try adding to the discussion. In other words, don't act like a dickcheese and you won't get treated like a dickcheese.

I would answer you precious, but you would just say "oh, this is too much drama, I'm outta here.", instead of not acting like a drama queen and just leaving without making a big show out of it.

I would suggest you go back over to the "How many Miles Thread", and warn people again that if the odometer shows zero miles at delivery, they should be wary of fraud.

Believe me, you're not worth much of my time if you're going to continue to act like a dickcheese. I'll debate anything, anytime with you on the merits of the discussion itself. But only if you quit trying to toss personal insults out at everyone you disagree with and stalk me around the forum like some sort of teen-age groupie.
You must want this thread to get locked or something. Maybe you should go do something constructive.

I didn't take anything as personal until you decided to note that someone is living beyond their means because they don't want to use the car the same way as you do. If that wasn't personal, be a man, say so and move on..
Otherwise, I'll answer you shot for shot Captain Queeg.

like I said it was just my opinion , I don't have any ill will toward anyone here , if thats what you want to do thats fine go for it. I live in buffalo and it's really just completly impossible to drive it in the winter , everyone I talk to here , one of the first things they ask me is , youre not gunna drive it in the winter are you . Thats like a complete joke out here , maybe your winters arent as bad so it wont be a real problem , I should have said that I really meant in my area.

Aren't the Pirelli tires the Camaro comes with all-season tires? I remember talking with a guy that owned a 2LT and he said they were. So theoretically, you actually could drive it year-round with minimal problems I would expect. I don't own one (yet) but if I had one the only times I wouldn't be driving them would be in heavy snow storms, and I'm in New England

All seasons??? maybe the tires on the LT...but not the 20's on the RS or SS, they are "summer tires".

I dont think the tires would be a problem , but here where I live they plow the roads so badly there are always up to a foot of snow and big ice chunks all over the roads for days at a time I wouldn't be able to drive it ,I trashed the bumper of my cavalier that way , I had to order a new bumper and install it , you could drive it in winter but I cant really afford to drive two cars at once , I have to take one off the road so I have to either go one or the other
actually I just read this---P Zero tires are Max Performance Summer tires derived from 100 years of Pirelli motorsport experience and developed for the drivers of powerful sports cars, sports coupes and high performance luxury sedans. Initially introduced as Original Equipment on the Aston Martin DB9, Audi R8, Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, Lamborghini Murcielago, Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT and Mercedes-Benz AMG vehicles, the P Zero lineup also includes select replacement tire sizes. The P Zero, like all summer tires, is not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

I've done it two ways. I had an '84 Z28 that I put 250,000 miles on as my only car, and a '97 Z28 that was beautiful every day I owned it for 10 years.
I'm going with beautiful every day I owned it again.
One other cool point, my State Farm insurance is much, much lower as a 7,500 mile and under car per year.
Everyone gets to do what they want with their car, and I just get annoyed by the "it's stupid not to drive it every second you can" people. "It's only" a Camaro.

yah my state farm is the same way, a word of warning if they ever send you a form asking you the mileage be sure you calculate it so it doesn't total over 7,500 for a year or they will take that away I made that mistake with another insurance before state farm

Thanks for the input. I might decide to go with the Camaro LT2 - without the RS package. That would give me either 18 or 19 inch all season tires, which should work. I live in Ontario - not far from Niagara Falls. From my understanding the Camaro has 7 inch ground clearence - which makes it average for most cars. Because of driveway space I can only go with one car at the moment - so the Camaro would have to be a year around car.

That sounds like a good plan. If you really wanted to go with the RS, I'd get a spare set of the 18" or 19" stock rims on ebay and use them for winter tires.

I considered driving in winter for about a second. I'll drive it until there is salt...my Grand Am can eat it =) It would break my heart to have to drive it in winter. I'm fortunate enough to have the option of another car.
The rain thing is hysterical to me. I have a friend with a SS that says the same thing, it won't see rain. Oh nooo the big bad rain!!!!

Drive it how you like to. It's easy to say you'll never drive it in the rain or snow (if you live in areas where it snows). I don't know if your weather guys are better than those in my area - likely not ! - but it's pretty likely that at some point you'll be caught up in a rain / snow storm and will have to drive it. I can't imagine that it'll handle that well in the snow but we'll see this winter...
If you prefer to park it in the cold months that's fine. For me, I'm going to drive mine as often as possible.
