Q&A:

This is an information page that should help all the members understand the process and track their cars all the way home.

Please take the time to read it and use it as a resource as your car moves thru they system.

Question: How do I use this service to find the status of my car?
Answer: You will need the full VIN number of your car and your 6-digit order number (example- NDDT33). Then, simply click on this link and add your information. http://camarotracking.com/

That all you need to do. We add your info in every night and submit it for an update. The following day your information will be added and updated on camarotracking.com. Please make sure you use the proper capitalization . Do not use special colors or change the font or use bold print. Only enter your data once. Once you are in the database your information does not need re-entered. Your status will be updated daily (weekdays) throughout the entire process.

Question: I cant find the update?
Answer:Once again to make it simple you only need to click on this link. http://camarotracking.com/ Then just hold your control key down and press "F" to open the search box. Type your member name and like magic your info will be highlighted for you review. Or you can look at the list below for the most recent updates. Usually you will find the update sometime between 6:00 AM and 10:00AM mountain time. Remember that when you FIRST enter your information, it will not show up until the next day.

Question: What does each Event Code mean?
Answer: The codes have been simplified from what they initially were to avoid confusion. We have all learned the status codes for tracking the production of our cars. From 1100 (Order placed) to 3800 (Order produced) to 5000 (order recieved by dealer) and every thing in between. In addition to the order status codes there are a series of codes that can be found within Camaro Tracking.

The first code each car will hit after production is generally- ON HOLD. Don't let that scare you. Each car goes through an assessment process. Many have no problems and are released within 4 or 5 business days. Others can be held for an undetermined period due to a defect or flaw that does not meet the high standards established. Some cars will need to have replacement parts ordered to execute the repair. To receive those parts a car could remain bayed (ON HOLD) for 3 to 4 weeks. The factory is a "just in time" modern production facility and they do not stock replacement parts at the plant. Just as your car moved from status code 3000 at which time the parts to build your car was ordered to 3400 when your car was started, you had to wait for the components to be received at the factory to actually build it to completion. If you need a new part to correct a flaw, that part must now be ordered and you must wait for it to come in before the repair can be made. Other reasons might include a batch hold. In some cases a batch of cars must be held to determine if a specific part has a flaw or defect. Under a batch hold the scope of cars affected is determined and individual evaluation of those cars is made. No reason for the hold on your car will ever be disclosed unless it is part of an official statement or recall. No exact date of the completion of the work or repair can be made as there is no way to determine the delivery of parts. ON HOLD is not a first in first out process. Each car is individual and the original date entered and date or VIN is irrelevant to its process through QC. Your order date does not matter as your car goes thru QC. After your car clears final assessment of QC it will move to status AVAILABLE TO SHIP.

AVAILABLE TO SHIP means that it is bayed at the factory and is cleared for shipping to its next destination. That next destination might be to striping for some or to its final destination for others. It usually will sit in that status for a few days. However, it is possible for a car to sit waiting for a railcar at the factory and to wait for the railcar that will be going to the destination to fill up. The same situation is true regarding cars that will be shipped via truck. They must wait for a truck and wait for it to fill up. After your car clears AVAILABLE TO SHIP you will now move to IN TRANSIT.

IN TRANSIT is the same as Status code 4200 (shipped). You are now back on the grid in more ways than one. You will see that you now have more data available. The method of shipping is now accurate. TRUCK or RAIL is now shown as your vehicles transportation method. Previous to this point the shipping method is not accurate and serves no purpose other than to confuse you. You will also find that you might have a railcar number. This number can be used to use the automated tracking systems available from the carrier that delivers in your area. (see section on railcar tracking for more information). Finally after the car has been delivered to the nearest railroad auto distribution center it will then be delivered to the dealer usually within 5 days of being unloaded from the train. Once it has been delivered to the dealer your status will change to DELIVERED.

DELIVERED means the car is no longer in the control of the shipper and is at the dealership. It should be available for you to pick up.

Question: How do I track my car on the railroad?

Answer: First and most important. Do not ever try to or talk to live personnel at the railroad or trucking companies We are being provide with this information from GM to use on automated tracking systems. If we go beyond the parameters and press the buttons to talk to a live body, they will notify GM and all our data updates regarding shipping will end. We have just recently been warned as several members contacted a trucking company to see when delivery was going to be. Don' do it as everyone else would suffer the consequences behind you.

Automated phone tracking numbers:
CSX 1-800-235-2352
Union Pacific 1 800 877 5123
Follow the phone prompts but do not speak to live personnel.

FINAL truck tracking to your local dealer should be monitored by your dealer. THEY HAVE ACCESS to the individual trucking outfits once you've told them your car has been unloaded from a train. If you're lucky enough to be close enough where your car never gets a train ride, call YOUR DEALER when you see your status code go to IN TRANSIT with TRUCK only shown and no reference to rail or railyard anywhere in your individual status line on camarotracking.com

Here is a sample from www.camarotracking.com (http://www.camarotracking.com)

http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x124/trm0002/Picture6-2.png

Note on it the different levels shown at that point in the list- IN TRANSIT and ON HOLD. Note that most ON HOLD show RAIL after them but one shows TRUCK. That is how they will ship once released. The IN TRANSIT entries showing RAIL also show the railcar number the car is inside. The ones that show TRUCK and then RAILYARD instead of a railcar number have reached their final destination and are awaiting for (or on) a local truck to your dealer.

Enjoy. :D

There is currently a blank page that shows up when you enter your info. We are working on a pop-up screen that will show you that your info was accepted and to check back tomorrow.

Actually just enter your information and then sit back and relax for a minute. Navagate away and then search back to the camarotracking.com site. You will more than likely see yourself added in the top group of cars. They load from the bottom up so scroll down and make sure you are there. Multiple entries are kind of a pain in the rear when we pull from the report to submit each night so this easy way to check that you were entered is better than flooding it with multiple entries. Updates the following business day.

Please make sure you have the right vin # There are no "I" in any vin so if you think it is an I it is probably a 1 (one). Dont let a simple error delay your tracking news.

Trent and Eric are both fantastic assets and are working very hard to provide the best information to the Camaro Enthusiasts namely you!

This tracking site is great, but I don't know what's worse, having the information or the lack of movement. I entered my VIN# onthe spreadsheet 8/22 and within a day of so, had the info that my car was on the train. On the 26th that changed to rail yard and on the truck, but that has not changed. Anyone know once you have that info, how long to the dealer? The dealer seems to nat have anything better than I can find.

It doesn't matter whose rail car it is- they "interline" as necessary. First carrier should be CSX and they should have the initial info on your vehicle....

I tracked it on both carriers for you. CSX transferred it to UP today in N. Platte, NE. Estimated time to industry (final destination) 9/10/09 at 11:06 pm. I would expect your car at the dealers the week of 9/14. :D

Ok so I was tracking it, and last week it said it was in Transit on rail and gave me the rail number. I called and said it was supposed to arrive on the 6th. I just checked it now and it says it is being transported by truck and its railcar number is "rail yard." Does this mean it is being taken to the dealer?

Yes, it has arrived at its final rail destination. Next step is transportation to your dealer. Could be today- could be a week... Depends on how long it takes the trucking outfit to fill a truck going in your direction.

Arrived yesterday in Casey, SC. Train car is not yet (fully) unloaded. I would expect tomorrow's camarotracking.com update will show TRUCK and Rail Yard for you instead of RAIL and a frieght car number. When you see that, call your dealer and find out who trucks them their cars.

Well Camarotracking.com updated today to TRUCK and RAILYARD. So I am guessing that means it is getting on a local truck to my dealer. And you said it was in South Carolina when you checked it. And I checked google maps and it is only a 2 hour drive from that city to my dealer. So It should be here like today or tomorrow I would think. Is that right?

I called my local dealer to try and find out who their trucking company is and he said they have 5 different trucking companys that ship them cars and it would be too difficult. They just keep saying "we will call you when it comes"

Correct. It is awaiting trucking to your dealer; could be a day- could be a week depending fully on how long it takes for them to fill a truck. They will not just put one or two cars on a car carrier semi and run them around. As far as them saying there are 5 different trucking companies that ship them their cars, I call BS on that. Logistics is handled by GM from start to finish and they have contracts with carriers to ship cars to final destinations. They won't use multiple ones to go to the same place.

On the camarotracking list, my vin # is listed as "available to ship". The update was dated 9-3. However, the invoice from my dealer stated that it was shipped. Perhaps it's a silly question, but is there a possibility that it has in fact shipped as per the dealer invoice? My vin # is 2G1FT1EW2A9143424. Is there any way that I can track it? :)

Camarotracking.com is correct- I guarantee it (but only at the morning time of update). The info on that site is updated each morning by a team led by John Fitzpatrick- Camaro Marketing Manager. Not that your dealer is wrong or lying- maybe just misinterpreting the order event code he/she is seeing. They could be seeing event code 4000 which does in fact mean available to ship. Keep in mind that camarotracking.com could be a day behind at any time because it is only updated each morning. If John and crew updated it at 8:30 am when the event code was 4000 and your car actually went to event code 4200 at 11:00am, when you call the dealer at noon, they will see the true status of 4200 while camarotracking.com will not show 4200 until the next morning's update. Did I lose you yet?

As far as the update "date", always keep in mind the date will reflect the last time your car's status changed. For example, if your car shows "In Transit" on tomorrow's update, it will show tomorrow's date of 9/11. It will continue to show 9/11 as the last update date for the day, week, whatever, it takes to get to the train's final destination when the status will change to still "In Transit" but will no longer say RAIL and have a traincar number, and will have changed to-> TRUCK and RAIL YARD. Status change will equal seeing a new update date. Long and short, just because the last update date shown is a day or a week ago doesn't mean your vehicle isn't moving.

I noticed there has not been any update on any of the cars on camarotracking.com since Thursday 9/10. Is that normal?

My car says TRUCK and RAIL YARD since 9/9/09. This is seriously killing me! I want to just drive to this Rail Yard and drive it myself to the dealer. haha.

Ok boys and girls- one more time.

Camarotracking.com updates each morning Monday-Friday (except holidays). Today is 9/16/09. If you look up your data and see "last update 9/12/09" it does NOT mean your data hasn't updated since then- it means it hasn't CHANGED since then. If 9/12 happened to be the date you were placed on a rail car in Toronto for shipment to Louisiana, the 9/12 date will not change until your car gets to Louisiana because your "status" of railcar hasn't changed.

Got it? http://www.camaro5.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif

Your order is listed as "On Hold" on camarotracking.com

This COULD be simply that QC found a defect and wants to correct it before shipping. However, more than likely, this is "one of those" situations that you need to go into your dealer and discuss like NOW. Get in there and ask to speak with the sales MANAGER and/or the owner and don't leave until they have told you why your car is on hold.

If QC is not an issue (according to Camarotracking.com), why would a car remain in "Available to Ship" status by TRUCK for 5 days without movement? Mine was built on 092409 and continues to say "Available to Ship" while others built after mine have already shipped out and they are now in transit. Spasticsquirrel also excludes my VIN but so many more after mine have gone out?

sstx
09-29-2009, 03:17 PM
Actually the Transfomers Package. I originally thought that may be the case, but spastic squirrel shows several cars built after mine with stripes and all different colors. If they show on spasticsquirrel and their VIN shows up on Chevy.com, that means it shipped, right? This is why I did not necessarily "chalk it up" to the stripes.

SS-Eric

If the VIN shows up, that just means that the car is built and has been invoiced, not shipped.

This is an excerpt from the "other" forum and is where I was making that assumption. I could be wrong in my interpretation.

Tracking All Currently Known US VIN and Window Stickers - Order Tracking Thread

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"I've got the VIN database up at http://camaro.spasticsquirrel.com . If your VIN is on there, feel free to click "claim" to claim it as yours (although it really doesn't mean anything).
The window sticker page only works from approximately the time it ships to the time the customer takes delivery. If the window sticker page is blank it either means the vin you supplied is not a valid VIN or it hasn't shipped/invoiced yet or it's already been delivered to the customer. "

SS-Eric
09-29-2009, 03:49 PM
shipped/invoiced are NOT always done at the same time. Normally the car is invoiced following day its built. I would guess it's waiting in line to get stripped and Autobot'ed ;)

I see a lot of ETTX railcars. I'm assuming those are CSX??

Anyway, I just checked camarotracking.com and found my car is in-transit as of 10/9 by Rail. Rail car number is SSW 080752 (VIN 2G1FK1EJXA9153268 if that helps).

Seems one other car heading for Texas has the same railcar number. Does this mean the car is moving, or simply destined for that railcar and still stuck in Oshawa? And is that a UP railcar or CSX? Or something else?

Thanks in advance.

What's wrong with the paint? Pictures? Your dealer should cover the paint issue(s) without question as well as the brake light. As far as a vibration, start with telling the dealer to re-balance your tires. QA wouldn't pick up the vibration because generally road-testing is not part of what they do. Is the steering ok? Is it pulling to one side consistently? Could have an alignment issue as well. Dealer will check that free of charge too (and fix) if you tell them it's pulling to one direction.

Car initials would be for example "ETTX". Then the car number similar to "909063". If CSX is having trouble understanding your initials, use the phone keypad to type them in. The "ETTX" example would be keyed in as 32 81 81 92 meaning the "E" is on key 3 in the 2nd letter position on that key followed by "T" being on key 8 in the first letter position, etc.

Your right I can't wait. It is now in Mira Loma train yard down by Riverside. Now they just need to get it to my dealer. Already have it set up for a GMPP exhaust. Need a good Air Intake next. Paint shop is standing by to go over some ideas on painted rally stripes. Thought about doing a ghost effect with them. Anyone have pics of what this looks like?
