Ok I know there's some fellow video game nerds here. :D
So who else besides me had to get Forza 3 today?

I almost missed out, because I forgot about it. DOH!

Went out on the hunt for a limited edition....
Stopped at the closest GameStop. Fail.
Best Buy a block from there. Fail.
Another Best Buy a couple miles away. Fail.
Another GameStop a few blocks from there. WIN!!!

Got some things to do tonight, so I don't know if I'll be able to play much, but at least I found one. :)

Do you put it on the floor, in a cabinet or on a table/shelf?

Shelf.

Is that the wrong thing to do?

If it was on the floor I'd say yes. No matter how many revisions they go through, overheating is still the surest way to shorten the life of those things. If it's stacked with other components like a stereo receiver or DVD player or in a nook with no airflow around it, that could be a contributing factor.

If it was like that when it RROD'd then it probably overheated.

And I know a thing or two about overheating. My old $500 video card had a very short life because of overheating.
