1970 PILOT #1 Camaro

I had the pleasure to see the recently restored 1970 Camaro PILOT car #1
This car was used by GM and Smokey Yunick to test High Performance GM parts.

With the restoration completed just this year, I saw the car at their second show at the 40th Anniversary of the F Body this past weekend at the GM Technical Center in Warren, Michigan.

This is an amazing car and quite a piece of Chevrolet and Camaro history

I posted a feature story on the car at www.MichiganClassics.com

That was a sweet car.

It was neat to see the hand-made prototype parts there too!

Once again I am envious of your adventures in autodom. Chuck is envious as well better watch you back as he might be too scared to confront you face to face.

Question

Do you have a direct link to the feature story?

I had that story in one of my older magzines. Cool story and real treasure find.

My favorite F body's are the '70-3's, both Camaro and Firebird. I'd be owning one if the opportunity to own my convertible didn't come about. I was looking at a '70 Formula when a friend said, "Jenny is selling her '69 triple black drop top."

Smokey Yunick was a brilliant engineer and mech. We all benefit from his innovations. I use to have one of his books on making SBC's perform better, back when I was strictly a bow tie guy.

Speaking of Warren, MI, the '09 Hot Rod Power Tour will be making a stop at the GM Technical Center. I may be doing part of the tour.
