I've been wanting to do this forever. You're the 10th person to tell me it will take off 25-50 pounds depending on how much of the actual AC system you remove.
How long did it take you? Did you need to get a shorter belt?
well, I did need a shorter belt because my A/c was on the same belt as the everything else, so i asked around on ls1tech about what size belt i would need for a stock ls1 with a 25% underdrive pulley (since 4th gen ls1's a/c is on a seperate belt.) ordered the belt for like $30, went to the junkyard and got the non ac heater box for the firewall for $25.
took it home, painted it.
the removal and install of the firewall piece was the hardest, it has like 5 bolts, a couple you have to peal the carpet back from the pass floor and take them off there, the others are from under the hood, the hardest is one next to the heater hose, i removed the heater hose to make it easier and put it back on when i was done.
then i took all the lines and fittings and the canister, make sure you have it properly drained or you know for a fact it IS drained. this step was very easy.
then the main head unit, condensor, i thought it would be harder, i just unbolted everything and put the pulley in the place of one of the rollers, pulled the tentioner down and it just went right together, seems like it idles smoother and and doesnt make the thumping noise that it used to, not sure on the weight reduction, but ill be weighing the car on the way to the drag strip next sat, im thinking 3100.
