Chevy Camaro Engine Swap

Hey guys, I need your technical expertise again. I have a friend who has a 1995 Chevy Camaro with the 3.4L. The engine has pretty much had it, it's time to change it out. He wants to keep it but doesn't know what kind of engine to get and how much it will cost. Is there a better engine he could put in that car with little modifications to anything? Would a V8 even work with his transmission? I appreciate the help.

he'll probably need a different tranny, although i dunno much about the older v6 camaros. and if he has to change the tranny, he will probably have to get a new driveshaft from a junk yard or something.

not an easy task!

a V8 wont be a direct swap. Not sure if there's any better V6's that will be a direct swap. The only real "no-modification" swap is probably gonna be another 3.4L. Without opening a can of worms, probably better off getting a rebuild or look for a lower mileage motor. OR...just sell it and buy another one w/ a V8.

he will need a new tranny and different rear end , if going with a v8 swap.not to mention he will have to redo engine mounts.too much work. just put another v6 in it and supercharge it or turbo it.

Honestly, see if he can pick up a 3800 Series III SC out of a Buick GS or something. Heck, probably could even just pull the top end and have the current 6 rebuilt for the application.

On another note though; with LT and LS series engines: How difficult would be/what would go into doing an LS swap into a pre '98 car?

I ask because I was curious how hard/easy it'd be to do an LT/LS1 swap to an LS3 crate motor. I mean you can order the whole thing (harness and all) from GMPP but bolting it up to the run of the mill 4L60 and the ECU.. how much of a PITA would that be?

Obviously reprogramming everything but the kitchen sink would need to be done, but what else?

Particularly going LT to LSZOMGWTFBBQ.

I'm also posting this here because we might as well keep the Swap thread as one both V6 and V8 since they're a popular subject nonetheless.

oops

For others reading this that may need the info for real and are not spammers.
If you want to do a LT1 swap you need:
LT1
LT1 engine harness
LT1 PCM
Transmission 4l60e or 6 speed from LT1 or something that uses same trans
LT1 fuel pump
LT1 fuel lines
If its from the same year wire harness it will probley plug right up of not I'm not sure. I am doing this swap at the moment, but on 96 3.8 to 96 LT1.

LT1 gauge cluster
Might need new fans, but not sure.
