Broken ignition rotor ????

Need help. The car is a 97 T/A with the LT1 85,000 miles. My son just bought the car. Every few days the car would hesitate & buck for about 15 seconds & clear up. well finally it died. We pulled it apart & found the rotor in about 10 pieces. We put in a new GM distributor & GM waterpump ( $$$ Ouch), The car ran for less than 2 hours & it died. It has spark going into the coil but none coming out. We have not torn it apart yet, but my buddy thinks the cam is walking & causing the rotor to break. Has anyone else heard of this? Any ideas? You can e mail me directly.

Sure sounds like the optispark was the problem, but if you already replaced it, then yeah something worse is wrong.
Check voltages both right at the coil and the end of the plug wires too, perhaps the plug wires could need replacing if you find a significant loss there.
Wouln't hurt to replace both the plus & the wires anyway, especially if they are still the factory ones at that mileage.
