I have a 95 z28 and went to hook up a scanner to the unit the other night and it said communication faliure...turn off ignition and wait 10 seconds try again.....Of Course same result...walked out and plug the brand new scanner into my 2006 impala SS and worker perfectly....I am wondering if anyone had experinced this and what it took to repair the system??

Did you make sure that the key was in the right position? I know that in my car if I try to scan it/whatever with the tool it fails out when the key is in but the off position, but works fine when I turn the key to AC or the next step up (but not to on or the one before the ignition).

Might wanna try that, because I know that I was going crazy myself for a while trying to figure out why my new shiny scanner wasn't working, till I realized to try and turn the key more. Different cars have different settings on the ignition cylinder where the computer makes an outbound connection, so what might have worked on your impala doesn't mean it will work on the camaro.

There isn't a Gen 2 LT1. It's simply an upgraded opti (which is still a POS). Nonetheless, you may simply have a California car if it truely is OBDII. It honestly may not be able to communicate with the computer. There may be some funky computer code that the scanner simply can not read due to it not necessarily falling into the 96-present parameters.

Of course, there is no fact in what I just said, but I always like to think outside of the box.

yea I get what you are saying ...the gen 2 part of the lt1 is a redesign...thus classing the engine as a gen2...not the same engine as a 94 .....been here delt with that part of it....back to what was being said about the the key....its in the proper position cause I can see the data pulse from the computer off the blue connector to my obd2 plug....heres whats crazy about the whole deal i can unhook a module and create a check engine code and it will pop up.....check engine.....I have tried 3 different types of scanners one from cornwell...cheap one tech 2 scanner...a 5000.00 scanner that we use at work that will talk to anything....also know as a tech 1 scanner....from here lets break this down even farther I have pulled out each module in the z and tried to establish communication with each one....failure....so I metered out all data line and checked for proper communication pulses from each module...the abs/trac module...communication pulses.....the derm module pulses.....the pcm pulses....So now I really starting to freak out.....Im no lightweight in this area by any means and after checking this I know they are talking to each other from the performace of the car.....and lights that activiate when each unit is not hooked up....but whats freaking me out still cant get any communication...I also have a very well built software program that has a diag connector flow chart and according to it with the test that have been takin....it should work perfectly......I am wondering if the computer may operate as normal and fully function .....but just simply not wanna talk to a scanner....MAN DRIVING ME CRAZY...lol...I cant smog the car cause they cant talk to it......grrrr.....oh and also talked to gm today and some people say that u need to have the vin programmed into the pcm to get it to see all the modules and work right...not true.....but u do have to have that on all newer cars past 2000

I'd try a lighter and some gasoline.
