FACTS about the 5th Gen Camaro - Updated 2-25-2008

I will be updating this as new information becomes availble.

Please also visit the 5thGen.org Camaro FAQ:
http://www.5thgen.org/index.php?page=camarofaq

FACTS ABOUT THE 5TH GENERATION CAMARO:
  • Camaro will be built at Oshawa Assembly.
  • Camaro Coupe production begins in October 2008 (first 30 cars).
  • Camaro Convertible production begins around July 2009.
  • Camaros will start appearing in dealers during the 1st Quarter of 2009.
  • Camaro will be built on the Zeta chassis, a global RWD architecture.
  • Camaro will have IRS, because that's the only rear end that Zeta is engineered for.
  • Camaro's IRS will be very similar to the one found in the 2008 Pontiac G8.
  • Camaro will be priced competitively with equivalent-level Mustangs.
  • Camaro will be offered with 6-speed transmissions, manual and automatic.
  • Camaro WILL NOT be offered with an LS2 or an LS7 engine, because their life cycles for production cars come to a close before Camaro production begins.
  • Camaro will be equipped with a B-Pillar, but it will be hidden behind a stationary rear window.
  • Camaro will have a normal keyed ignition.
  • TENATIVELY, Camaro should be offered with three engines at initial release: 2 V6s, and 1 V8. Engine sizes and horsepower numbers are not yet available.
  • V8s WILL NOT be produced in limited numbers.

FACTS ABOUT THE CAMARO CONCEPT CARS:
  • The Concept Cars are speed-limited to 40mph.
  • The Concept Cars are rev-limited to 3000rpm.
  • The Convertible Concept has functioning insturment panel gauges, but does not have a top.
  • The Concept Cars are NOT on a production chassis.
  • There are 4 concept cars: Silver Coupe, Silver Coupe push car (Australia), Red Coupe push car, Orange Convertible.
  • There are 2 Transformer Movie prop Camaros (aka "Bumblebee"), and they were converted from production GTOs. Body panels were changed, interior is semi-changed, wheels are black steel 20s with covers on them that simulate the concept's brakes and wheels.

Pretty good guestimations are the LS3 (6.3L) with different tunes. The LS9 (SC'd 6.3) is probably going to remain corvette only but there is no real "facts" yet on what the replacements are only good and educated guesses.

2000 Red 1SC Z28 A4 - dead for now
2005 Black GTO M6 6.0 - Split daily driver
1987 Silver Fiero GT - Split daily driver

LS3 replaces LS2, yup. The 2008 Corvette gets the LS3 instead of the LS2.
As far as the LS7, well we know of the LS9 coming, and I've heard of an LS8 possibly coming too.

The LS9 is rumored to be the engine in the "Super Corvette" so I highly doubt it would find its way into Camaro.
I don't know much about the LS8, haven't heard anything.

Only thing I heard about the LS8 was in a post on a message forum..can't remember now if it was digitalcorvettes or not but that is the most likely source.

It just said the LS8 was a second 6.2L blown/intercooled LSx, but would be lower HP than the LS9. It also mentioned a third blown LSx that would be non-intercooled, but didn't speculate as to a designation for it. If true, that could be your Camaro motor.

"The Red clay and foam "push car" is the only other Concept car built."

Actually there are two push cars - a red one AND a silver one

Not to be picking just to pick but.....................Are you looking to buy a car or a glorified stereo with wheels.

This will be a Camaro not a Scion Xb or other stereo first platform.

Just wondering what your priorities are for this car.

I just dont see a Camaro as a good starting point for a huge system. The car is too small for effective bass projection anyway not enough air volume or distance from a sub box to get proper focus.

But it would be your car and your are more thenm welcome to do with it what you will.:gr_patriot:
