Anybody order from gmpartsdirect.com?

I ordered a camaro car cover from this site's sponsor last week and haven't recieved any feedback. I tried to email them and still no response. They also don't list a phone number. The website said they had them in stock and ready to ship. WTF?

Car covers are backordered right now with no ETA. At least they were as of the other day. They must not have them in stock because when they do, the stuff ships quickly. It's when they DON'T have it in stock you could be in for a good long wait.

I've had good luck emailing them over the years when I had questions. They don't do business by phone because I think they try to keep their overhead low as they can. Phone jockeys would cost a lot more. They are a branch of Flow Chevrolet in NC and a site sponsor here.

In my experiences, 95% of the time, they are the lowest delivered-to-your-door priced GM parts supplier by any stretch, even if it's a couple of bucks. But sometimes, they are not. So you should always check around. Also, if you're in a hurry for the parts, check elsewhere first because I've had to wait a few weeks sometimes for backordered stuff. They don't ship partial orders, so be prepared for that, too. It's going to wait until all your stuff is ready to ship.

Example of them not always being the lowest cost-- GM accesory floor mats for the Camaro list for $140. GMPartsdirect sells them for 110, but charge something like 62 bucks or soemthing for shipping/handling for a total of about 172 bucks or something like that. That's 32 above MSRP. And y'all know how I feel about paying over MSRP when you don't have to. I can go to my local dealer and buy the same things (when they become available) for approx. 124 bucks + tax. Same part, most likely the same warehouse. Why pay more?

If service is more important than price, for just a few pennies more in most cases, you could try Diller, the GM parts guru, from Newman Chevrolet, another site sponsor.

Then you're most likely going to pay more in the long run for GM parts. I would agree it's not wise to order a single, small, inexpensive part from them. The minimum shipping charges would kill the deal. But on more expensive parts, it's a different story.

What should matter most if you're concerned with shipping costs is to look at the total cost overall.

Let's do the math on a real world example. I picked out a random 4th gen part number for a 99-02 Camaro brake master cylinder. #18060784. GM list price is $365.94. GMpartsdirect price is $190.29. Shipping/handling is $39.96 which brings the price to your door to $230.25. You saved $135.69 over list price.

Now let's say you can get a 25% discount from list price from another dealer. Wow! That's great, right? Only until you do the math... 0.75 x 365.94 = $274.46. Your total cost, before taxes is already $44.21 above GMpartsdirect.com's total price (which is 37% off list price for this one). For the same part.

Again, comparison shop and consider total costs when buying parts (or anything for that matter). Basic math skills and a few minutes of time can save you money.

Mine was $110.11 to the door from GMpartsdirect.com. Part number 92222441. So I guess you could say that's under 125 shipped as well.

The car cover plus shipping is a little under $310. If i bought it at a dealer, it would be $350 plus tax. So I saved around $60. I'm happy, i just want some feedback.

It varies from part to part....But I will say this, shipping isn't refundable - so if you ever want to return an item (and many have to Dave because of his NO HASSLE return policy) you'll get more $$ back to your wallet.

I understand completely. Customers should never be left in the dark about order status. Shoot them another email. Be the squeaky wheel.

But like I was saying, when I was at my local dealer the other day picking up some bolts and washers for another car I'm doing a frame-off on, I checked on the cover and floor mats. The cover was backordered with no ETA, and the mats aren't available to order yet. The price is there, but a big red rectangle comes up on the screen saying if you even try to order them, the order will be cancelled. (the mats, not the cover).

Precisely my point which I mentioned before. If you want better, personalized service, go with Diller. Sometimes the peace of mind is worth a couple of bucks.
