Is a 4 cylinder Camaro in our future?

Since the 5.0 is back I'm sure Ford and Chevy will be throwing as many curveballs as they can. Just wondering if Chevy would consider their 260hp turbo 2.0L as a base model engine or something. (Could also use the new regal Turbo I4 255hp) Though I wouldn't buy it, it might be interesting to see how Mustang responds...if at all. As much as I hate to say it, Camaro might have a chance to capture some of the "tuner" kids trading in their cobalts or whatever else has the LNF. This market might be enough to keep Camaro over the top? If Mustang did respond it would be their SVO so even more competition for Camaro!

What do you guys think?

They actually looked at this possibility before the initial release of the car.

The answer is no, because even the powerful and economical 260hp Turbo-I4 LNF is trumped in both horsepower and gas mileage by the LLT 3.6L V6 that is in use.

As we know, the LLT 3.6L V6 gets 29MPG Highway.

The Turbo-I4 LNF gets 30MPG Highway in a Pontiac Solstice or Saturn Sky, these are vehicles that weigh ~750lbs less than Camaro.
So, even with more economical gearing, the LNF still would only pull down 28-29MPG in Camaro.

So as you see, there's really no point.

I'd love to see the turbo 5 banger make it's way into a Camaro

Far cry from the first few years of the 3rd gen. Driving those was funny, not to mention the room in the motor compartment

4 cylinder shouldnt be in the camaro dictionary. mustang did it and it didnt work out. we should learn from them. this car doesnt need to appeal to tuner kids. i think its already appealed to the kids. its selling itself. theres no need to humiliate the car like that.
