Installing Side Vent Inserts

Later on today, I'm receiving my Side Vent Inserts for my car.

Part Number: DM8241 BLACK

Has anybody had any experience installing these? Is it complicated at all? My car was cleaned and polished this past Sunday and hasn't been on the road since. Is there any preparation I need to do or should I let a professional installer install them. I've installed the Satin Nickel Fuel Door myself, so if it isn't any more mechanically complicated than that, I can probably handle this. Your thoughts? Thanks

They are the aluminum inserts. Metal, yes. The official ones from Chevymall.com (black).

i see, well then they stick on with the supplied two sided tape already on them i assume.

best prep for that is to COMPLETELY strip the area of any wax or contaminents.

wash area with dawn soap
clay bar area using soapy water or detail spray as lubricant
re-wash area with dawn and dry
wipe some rubbing alcohol or any other type of alcohol based paint prep/cleaner
make sure it is 100% dry
peel a corner of the paper off the adhesive, enough to stick the top or bottom to the car
put the decal in place, once your 100% confident where its placed, firmly hold it against the car and continue to peel the paper off, try not to rip or tear it
hold it about a minute to make sure it sticks
wait a day before getting it wet or dirty
make sure you re-wax your paint so it is protected

alot more involved than simply wiping off the area and sticking them on, but this will assure you that they are on there and will STAY on there

Thanks for the information!! The problem is that they don't seem to fit correctly. They aren't shaped right or something. Great, now I have GM to install them. Crap....

they look like each one has it's own, i don't think all three on each side are the same length.

This is insane. I called Paramus Auto Mall in Paramus NJ and their service department has never installed these inserts before and they really didn't know what I was talking about. Wow....Does anybody have clear instructions I could print up so I could bring it with me and show them what I'm talking about? Thanks all!!

I saw his in person in Indiana, they are the same concept, all be it a different style, they are still just a big sticker. I am sure his experience can be of use to you. Follow RJ's pre-prep above (on his other fourm he is a Proffesional Detailer after all), de-waxing and cleaning will be key to KEEPING them on once you get a plan for installation. Make sure you give plenty of time to dry after the cleaning, moisture, even a little could end up screwing up the glue on the sticker. For clarification, I have seen the exact part you are talking about, I know it is metal, it comes in chrome or black, but in it's essence it is a sticker none the less.
