with the Camaro back to outselling the Stang...

since the Camaro outsold the Mustang again in August, what do you predict will happen for the rest of this year? will Mustang come back again? will Camaro outsell the 'stang for the rest of the year?

i'm glad Camaro is back on top... i hope it stays that way. but we shall see...

here's the August numbers in case you missed 'em:
Camaro sales - 6321
Mustang sales - 5570
Challenger sales - 3283

Depends on who comes out with whatever special edition or price structure that gets people buying first. I think there's probably most of the die-hard Mustang guys already got their 2011 model (but maybe not), so I forsee the Mustang maybe hanging a little tighter, but not blowing past the Camaro. Especially once the Camaro convertible gets rolling out the door.

It depends if those cheap, crappy chinese transmissions in the Mustangs start crapping out or not.

Betcha it will flip flop a few times, but Camaros will end up with the year end top numbers. Like el ess X said, the vert will bost it for sure, and all the little teasers of Z28 talk are picking up, IMO will actually drop the SS sales a little for a few months before release. But I have faith in the allure of this car, and every time I see Challengers in the sales numbers it makes me pity them a little, as far as it goes I think it at least looks better than the Mustang.

If we all forget about our Camaro allegiances for a minute, then I think the answer is the Mustang will eventually outsell the Camaro on a consistent basis. Historically that is what has happened in the past.

I think the Camaro is still selling well because of the folks who have waited so long for the 5th gen. Just the same, it would be interesting to know what the demographic profile is of the typical Camaro customers of today because that may provide a better clue to how long the Camaro can hold on to the number one sales slot.

i like seeing other camaros, but i don't like seeing 3 pull up at a stop light at the same time like i do with mustangs.

i'm all for everyone getting one, but i don't want it to get the reputation of being too "common"

there are A LOT here in the small towns of Midland and Odessa, combined population of 200,000. i see 3 or 4 everyday here. and they are most of the time different, not just the same one.

That was mainly because GM used to have a car called "Firebird". If you looked at just F-car sales as opposed to the individual Camaro and Firebird sales, I believe that GM outsold Ford or it was at least, much closer. Same goes for F150 sales vs. Sierra and Silverado.

Maybe so, but not so much later into the 4th generations life; the Mustang was outselling both the Camaro and Firebird combined.

The whole "built up demand" argument is moot to me at this point. The Camaro still holds the head turner category for now. The slight revisions to the stang I feel didn't do enough to make enough go "ooh look". A non enthusiast might not even spot most of the differences between a 09/10/11 model mustang which by now the overall shape is quite familiar to all already and considered "old" despite the drivetrain upgrades. The consumer market is fickle like that. If the vette had a competitor the C6 refresh would not have helped it either.

This is a different ballgame than the 3rd and 4th gens. The 3rd and 4th gen Camaros were very low slung cars that weren't very suiting for comfortable ingress egress or even seating for that matter. This Camaro is not like that which makes it more appealing as an every day, any person car now which adds to the base which is where most of the disparity between the sales came from. Another factor is price. The Mustang used to be quite a bit cheaper than the Camaro. You hit the lots and the prices are running tic for tat nowadays as well.

The Z28 (IF it really comes) nor the vert has bowed yet, whereas the Stangs equivalents have been out for a while already. My personal prediction is that this body style Camaro will overall outsell this body style Mustang. The first one to do sweeping changes will reclaim the title.
