Dealer Nonsense of Fact (Quick Responses Appreciated; Thanks!)

My wife and I are taking delivery of our new 2011 Chevrolet Equinox LTZ tonight but the preparation department called and said for $495.00, they wanted to add some kind of super sealer that acts like teflon. It is supposed to fill in all the gaps in the clearcoat for the life of the car (guarantee) and guarantee the paint never fades. Is this dealer BS or should we accept this? Any help would be appreciated and quick responses would be awesome to read before we leave to get the car. Thanks a bunch all!!

Think about this. Do YOU trust the dealer to do it right? Sounds good in theory, but there's never been any dealership application that could meet or beat my expectations of a good job.

Save that 495 for some Zaino or Adams, do it yourself and go out and eat a nice celebratory dinner on how much you saved with the rest.

If its not a GM approved product it may void your paint warranty! Just like all other add ons.

Excerpt from 2011 Equinox owners manual:

Finish Care
Occasional waxing or mild polishing
of the vehicle by hand may be
necessary to remove residue from
the paint finish. Approved cleaning
products can be obtained from your
dealer.

Approved cleaning products can
be obtained from your dealer.
Follow all manufacturer
directions regarding correct
product usage, necessary safety
precautions, and appropriate
disposal of any vehicle care
product. Certain cleaners contain
chemicals that can damage the
emblems or nameplates on the
vehicle. Check the cleaning
product label. If it states that it
should not be used on plastic
parts, do not use it on the vehicle
or damage may occur and it
would not be covered by the
warranty.
