Window tinting...

Guys I am finally getting my windows tinted on my 2012 IOM. I have gone all out on the "Blacked out" look on my car with the Black vent stripes, tail light and side markers Black outs, Black TSW wheels and all Black Bowties. I am planning on doing my window tinting at 35%. Is that too dark?

As far as "the law" is concerned, depending on your state it may be... 35% is the legal limit here in Oregon.

Remember that tint numbers are actually the amount of light being let through, not the amount of light being blocked out (they're backwards). So if you wanted a blacked out car, you'd put 5% on for REALLY DARK windows.

I personally have a hard time seeing at night, so I have 35% on the door windows, and rear windshield, and 20% on the small quarter windows... Can't tell the diff from the outside unless you're really looking. I don't dare go and lower than 35% anywhere else, or I'd be basically blind at night, and it's just begging for a ticket from the local cops.

This place that I am going to offers 5%, 20% and 35%. I am assuming 5% is minimal tinting and 35% is dark?

Like I said it's backwards from how you think it might be... 5% is darker, vs 35%. I personally have a hard time with 35% at night. Depends on how cool you want to look I guess

5% is darker than 35%.

Imagine 0% is total darkness, like someone painted over your windows....

5% , is a step up from that. You can BARELY see through them, but you look real cool, which is great, right?

Hope this makes sense to you the way I've written it? If you don't care about safety or the law, go for 5%. Most places here won't install less than 20% without a "doctor's note".

Back to my cars, I have a hard time seeing through 35% at night. I will never go darker than that on a window I have to constantly look through. (like side windows, and the rear windshield).

I haven't got mine done yet, but I'm going with 20 on the rear and quarter windows. 50 on the side windows, and 35 on my side mirrors. I do a lot of night time driving, and my eyes are sensitive hense the side mirrors. Ohio state law is 50 on the side windows, and no limit on the back windows.

Don't forget a good size sun strip across the windshield, don't know about you but I find our sun visors just short of useless. I have a 8" strip that helps immensely.

Thanks for clearing this up. I have 18% on my side windows and 5% on back window....I can hardly see out of my back window at night. Chevy installed the tint...boyfriend took it in to be done while I was at work

like Pumpkin said ohio is 50. I went with carbon 35 on the sides and carbon 20 on the back. As far as the visor in ohio it cant be any lower than the factory tint to be legal. Friend of mine had 20 on sides and 5 on back and wide visor, trooper pulled her over and told her she had to lighten the sides and remove or make the visor narrower. its wise to check your states laws before doing it.

So is 35 pretty dark or should I go down to 20? I think 5 will be way too dark. I want it dark enough that people aren't seeing directly into my car without really looking.
