Aftermarket Backup Camera Alternative
2015 LS with the basic radio and no floor gauges....didn't see a need since digital gauges are in the DIC.
Anyway the console space forward of the gear shift was put to better use. Mounted a 4.3" Garmin GPS which fit nicely under the temp controls and installed the Garmin wireless backup camera for under $250 on Amazon, camera being more expensive than the GPS.
Didn't think the GPS could read signals mounted under the dash, but it can! And the beauty of the system is that it functions automatically like a native GPS....Plug into the power outlet inside the floor console, feed wire out and under the side of the console cover and up behind the shift plate cover and plug into the GPS. The unit will power up as soon as the vehicle is started, bypassing that stupid "Agree" screen......shows the camera view as soon as it shifted into Reverse.....and back to the map screen.....when shifted from Reverse. Automatically shuts off with the vehicle after the retained power timeout expires. A static distance line grid can be turned on and adjusted for the vehicle.
I find it easier and cheaper than the small mirror LCD type retrofit and the GPS comes in handy.
