I really don't know why they started this in the first place.

Which reminds me - I need to take those off of my Camaro.

I can see why they started it as an image thing. Not sure it is worth the extra cost however.

Not that it matters, but Chrysler did it in the 60s/70s with their pentastar emblem on the lower rear fenders
