Toyota to Use Zip Ties to Fix Floor Mats

If you're into extreme sports, you're probably fine trusting your life to a bungee cord. How do you feel about trusting it to a zip tie?

Automotive News reports, "Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc. is instructing dealers to attach floor mats to seat frames on the driver's side of select vehicles with self-locking wire ties to prevent the mats from snagging on gas pedals and causing unintended acceleration."

I checked my car to see if it was possible to jam the pedal and couldn't
This is how the Toyotas are doing it:

Give it a try in your car other than Toyota and see if you can jam the pedal if you put the floor mat under it. DON'T try it while driving. I believe it is a badly designed pedal from Toyota. I have never even had a car that has a hook to hold the floor mat.

Try it and post your results and kind of car also an image of yours if you can
Heres mine:

2007 Escalade- Tried putting different mats under the pedal, but couldn't get it to stay down the slightest bit. I could find anything to put under the pedal to make it stay down.

Here is an image of a Chevy with aftermarket pads, but notice the shape of the pedal. It's like mine, It don't curve like the Toyota. Someone borrowed my camera or I would take a pic of mine.

It's strange that neither of your vehicles have a floormat hook. All 3 vehicles (2 fords and a Pontiac) do here.

This sounds like something my dad would do.
He's obsessed with zipties.

EDIT: I went and showed him and he immediately said "They wouldn't have that problem if the **** pedal was straight!" I rofl'd.

Yeah, Camaros have the floormat hook too. Quite a handy feature!

So on another note on these silly Toyotas....
Now when your floormats get dirty, they're zip-tied to the seat....
So you CAN'T take them out to clean them.
Therefore, pretty much defeating the purpose of having a floormat anyway.

Now that's just stupid.
