Automakers say revamping of safety agency goes too far

WASHINGTON -- Detroit and foreign automakers came out Thursday against unlimited fines, per-vehicle fees and other key portions of an auto safety overhaul pitched by congressional Democrats in the wake of Toyota's slow launch of sudden acceleration recalls.

I might not like it on the sticker price, but on the bright side maybe it'll kick quality into overdrive and we'll get some really *****in' cars from every corner of the automotive world?

Or maybe my Jack glass is still half empty and is in need of a fill up. <_<

Unlimited fines? More like finding any reason to make money off of automakers. And jacking up the price of vehicles in the process.

And shooting themselves in the foot at the same time. Do you really think Unlimited fines is going to fly? I've heard the same being tossed around for 'Big Oil' after the Gulf Fiasco.

I'll still hold my 'we'll see' attitude but I think good will come of it. Or we could have another "Unsafe at any speed: Redux with forward by Barack Obama by Ralph Nader"

I'm not a fan about Unlimited fines for ANYTHING..because it can and WILL be abused. :\
