Rumor has it the C7 will be a stop-gap release with a relatively short run in preparation for bigger changes in the C8.

You may be right....that is what i was originally expecting as well. Read a couple of articles last night, and may have incorrectly formed an opinion based on what a forum member said on another forum. Looking back at the posts it was a forum post that opined the C7 would be short lived stop gap prior to C8. Either way....I can't wait to get one!

im really curious to see if they use the C6R 5.5 DI motor. i told the guys on camaroz28.com that i think the 5.5 will be in the c7 and they all think im crazy. but if things go the way that they always have, the race motor in the vette is normally gonna find its way into the production model. plus they said the next vette will be smaller, lighter and just as much power out of a smaller displacement. i cant wait to see if they put this motor into the 6th gen camaro on the alpha platform. that would make for a killer z28.

It wouldn't surprise me at all. I think they are going to be forced to move into smaller displacements. GM has said as much in several places. The summary of which is, its all about performance...not so much how they do it. You will get some blow back by purist...but ultimately if it performs like a Corvette, I personally don't care what it has in it. Look what Nissan is doing with a V6, 538 HP and 0-60 in under 3 seconds.

I have said all along, the new Z/28 should have a small displacement configuration, like the 3.6 DI with Twin Turbos. It would be exotic for GM, just like the 1st Gen Z's were. Ever see a 69 Z/28 with a Cross Ram Intake? GM will likely park one next to the new Z when it is unveiled with a Twin Turbo V6!

Now, I'm ducking from the flame throwers!

i dont know about the v6 tt for the z28. it would be more of a track car than anything and i dont know how well a mass produced tt motor would be from chevy...for the z28 at least. being that this would be a first for them, id be skeptical about a ttv6. id rather them put the 5.5 in the z28. i could see something liek a v6 tt being the base model for the SS and base vette. and then having the di5.5 for the z28 and z06.

If I remember correctly GM already confirmed that the 5.5L will be in the C7.
And supposedly a rather substantial increase in MPG, as well.
