A four cylinder Commodore?

THE first four-cylinder version of the Holden Commodore in almost 30 years could soon roll off production lines.

In the same week as motorists have faced petrol prices reaching $1.50 a litre at the pump, General Motors, Holden's US parent, has announced it is considering adding a four-cylinder engine to the Chevrolet Camaro, a Commodore-based muscle car developed in Australia for the US market.

The 2.0-litre engine slated for the Camaro, which uses a turbocharger to increase its performance, produces more power and torque than a brand-new base-model 3.6-litre Commodore V6.

The four-cylinder engine's big benefit should be in fuel use. Bob Lutz, GM's global vice-president, said last week that if fuel prices continued to rise, the more fuel-miserly 2.0-litre engine was likely for the Camaro.

A four-cylinder Commodore last sold in the early 1980s, but the 1.9-litre engine was not a commercial success and soon ended production.

They're talking about the turbo 2.0 for all the Zeta cars, including Camaro & G8.
We'll see what happens I guess.

Considering what the Turbo'd Solstice gets...and the price of Premium..not a real big bonus over the MPG of the V6.
