Magna will build the Camaro convertible top - 20,000 units first year

Magna International Inc. will build the convertible top for the Chevrolet Camaro.

General Motors Co. reassigned the contract to Magna, of Aurora, Ontario, last year when a rival supplier, Germany's Edscha AG, filed for insolvency, said two sources familiar with the discussions.

GM put first-year Camaro convertible production at about 20,000 units, the sources say, which could make it one of the largest North American ragtop contracts.

Magna is slated to build the Camaro top at its Bowling Green, Kentucky plant.

So I assume tops will be assembled and installed at Bowling Green or will they be shipped to Oshawa for regular production installation? The latter sounds like a logistic charliefox..

Little bit of history. The Magna facility in Bowling Green was originally built by ASC to do the Corvette convertible. When GM decided to build the whole vert in house, ASC just built the tops there and shipped them around the corner to the GM plant and built the hardtop roof for the vette there instead. Later on, ASC built the Viper coupe roof there at BG. Now, after ASC went out, Magna owns the facility.
