i found out only on the convert gm decided to add this pos.. i went under there and loosed the tension to the damper to wide open all the time.. and man its sounds great.. before at low rmp take off you got that stuffed tailpipe sound that sounded crappy... i guess will be my temp fix to an actual axle back system.. has anyone else done this.???

future mods cai, axle back and custom tune... thanks

I put a corsa exhaust on mine 2 days after I got it home. It now has ARH headers and corsa exhaust. Now it sounds like a sports car.

Interesting. I wonder if they will be doing something specific to the ZL1 Convertible?

Don't see why they would need to with the ZL1 already having a dual mode exhaust. Which serves this purpose out of the box....

Based on what he described, something was done to the SS convertibles with a butterfly. Not the dual mode exhaust the ZL1 and now available on the 2013 SS. Since that wasn't an option on his 2011 SS. My suspicion was to make it quieter since you don't have the added sound barrier of a hard top. Therefore I am wondering if GM will do anything different on the dual mode exhaust for the Convertible ZL1? If they reasoned it was necessary to quiet the convertible SS to some degree, will they also reason it to be required on the ZL1?

I understand completely what the OP is referring to. What they did to the verts is basically a mechanical baffle (a spring loaded blade that is overcome by exhaust pressure).

My statement was to the fact that they will most likely just incorporate the dual mode system since it will in affect achieve what they were trying to do with the system the current verts have.....

Can you tell us where to look for this butterfly? Is it a matter of turning it with a wrench in my driveway or does it need to be on a rack?

Here's a link to an axle back install I did on my vert, with pics (inside/out) of the butterfly valves.
