Tie-down on Tonneau cover

Bought a 2014 controvertible about this last summer; it had 7800 miles on it and was out of Wyoming, so I'm thinking the Tonneau cover may not have seen much use. I stored the car by mid-September so it hadn't seen much use from me this first year until this summer. I discovered a problem this summer, though. My issue is that both of the "figure-eight" shaped, elastic tie-downs the secure the tonneau cover to the car are torn. The loops on each end look fine, but the thick middle section that makes it a figure-eight is almost completely severed on both the driver and passenger side.

With so little use I have to think it was a design/manufacture issue but don't know where to turn to confirm that...so am starting here. Anyone now of issues with the tonneau tie-downs on the 2014 (or any other years) for that matter?

Thanks.

Tie-downs on Convertible Top

I miss the hell out of Missoula, Montana but still stuck here in Virginia. Yes I had trouble with those tie down's on my 2012 Convertible. Plus wind could catch your tie down and I had to pull over a number of times to make sure it was not going to blow appart. It crashed and burned finally and my Camaro is not a Convertible but I sure want to get another one, but perhaps new again since the covers blend right into the car now. Michael in South Boston, Va

I have a 2012 and one of the tie downs has done the same thing. Currently I just give it a couple of twists before hooking it over the stud.
Another issue with them catching air and attempting to blow off has been solved buy using Velcro in the middle. This can be researched here easily with appropriate pictures.
This winter I plan to have local upholstery shop replace the bungees on both sides.
