Rearend Growling Time for Dealership help

A couple of weeks ago I was backing out of my driveway when I heard a distinct sound coming from the rearend. I've had positracks before and usually that sound means your low on additive to lube the clutches. Then yesterday I took her for a drive and everytime I made a turn or went in reverse the noise got louder and louder until now I'm not driving her anymore. I called the dealership and scehduled a appointment and from the articles on the other sight it seems that all 2012 or (let say for aurgument sake a majority) have had the same issue when they approach 5K. I hit 5k one weekago. The fix for most has been rearend oil replacement and not clutches or gears. I believe I read where one guy had to get the backlash adjusted. I find it hard to believe that Chevy would use a 80 or 90 weight oil that breaksdown that fast. I have a 2010 SS/RS that I have 25k on it and nothing coming from the rearend on that one. Was there something that changed in the rearends that would drive them to change the fluid type?

Hey Glenn- I have no idea but some food for thought, you have an external cooler for the rearend on your ZL1. With that being said, the oils may be different. We know the gearing is different, but I'm not sure about the rearend itself.

It's a very interesting question, and I'll be following this thread for updates. It wouldn't hurt to take it the dealership, that way you have a record and paper trail of it.

I know it's no help, but the posi unit in Jade makes a slight noise when you turn sharp, but I set the clutches tight for straight line launches.

Hey Bucky,
Yeah I just can't believe that so many people are having the same issue. I was shocked when I read all of the different people wondering the same thing. I will interested in finding out what changed and why with the Fluid. Never had one issue with my 2010. Called Champion this morning and they said bring her on down and they would take a look first thing in the morning.

PNYSLAR,

Sorry to hear about the noise you are hearing just after 5,000 miles. I saw that you were scheduled to visit the dealer so I hope that they are able to find the issue quickly. Please keep us updated and feel free to contact me directly with any concerns.

I was going to try to get it there tonight, but it looks like my work wont allow that so I'll try Tuesday night and have them look at it on Wednesday
