Whining and chattering from the rear end
This is an FYI for all of my fellow ZL1 owners. Keep an ear on your rear assemblies. Mine and a friend of mine ZL1's have had similar issues. I have a groaning sound coming from the rear end assembly when I make sharp turns. My friends makes a chattering noise doing similar maneuvers.
We both have taken our vehicles to Gordon Chevrolet in Augusta. The bulletin has come down stating the assembly manufacturer placed too much paint (I don't remember the name of the substance they are using) on the gears, and that is filtering onto the friction plates. The plates are getting the paint embedded and therefore making noise.
GM's initial fix is to have the rear assembly flushed, refilled, and driven in figure 8s and driven for 8-10 miles. This process is to be completely 3 times before returning the vehicle to the owner. If this "fix" does not cure the issue, then the dealership requests a new assembly for installation.
As I have seen and heard, this is not affecting drivability of my car, its just annoying when driving in a parking lot. None the less, just trying to get some info out for my fellow owners.
