Whining and chattering from the rear end

This is an FYI for all of my fellow ZL1 owners. Keep an ear on your rear assemblies. Mine and a friend of mine ZL1's have had similar issues. I have a groaning sound coming from the rear end assembly when I make sharp turns. My friends makes a chattering noise doing similar maneuvers.

We both have taken our vehicles to Gordon Chevrolet in Augusta. The bulletin has come down stating the assembly manufacturer placed too much paint (I don't remember the name of the substance they are using) on the gears, and that is filtering onto the friction plates. The plates are getting the paint embedded and therefore making noise.

GM's initial fix is to have the rear assembly flushed, refilled, and driven in figure 8s and driven for 8-10 miles. This process is to be completely 3 times before returning the vehicle to the owner. If this "fix" does not cure the issue, then the dealership requests a new assembly for installation.

As I have seen and heard, this is not affecting drivability of my car, its just annoying when driving in a parking lot. None the less, just trying to get some info out for my fellow owners.

Yes it is a concern, mine did this with only 7k miles on it and took to back to Reliable Chevrolet and they decided to just replace the whole thing. Had car for a week but well worth it. IMO

Do you have a bulletin number and for what year ZL1, 12, 13, or both? Mine is a '13.

Mines a 13 with 7k, and my buddies is a 12. I don't know the bulletin number and I was hoping to find it info from everyone here before hand. I have been out of the country for three years and had lost touch with daily happenings.

Mine was whining on decal/no load. They ordered all the guts plus outer bearings and have been working on it since Monday. They couldn't get it right with shims so a new complete differential goes in tomorrow. GM told my service writer that some of the housings were out of specs so the total replacement. Then we move on to what to do about the SC rattle
Priced a C7 that would be less than I paid for the ZL1 so that me be the ultimate fix.
