a/c water leak in car fixed but

Turns out that the evaporator was plugged by a piece of paper that probrably got there from the factory. Thankfully they had a "small" mechanic be able to reach his hand up to clear drain otherwise they would have had to drop the tranny. Anyways, they said they would replace the carpet if I wanted which I told them yes. But my question is, do you guys/girls think I should seeing as though they will have to tear out everything?? I'm just concerned that this will be a major job and the carpeting was not that wet. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks Deb

hmmmm, you could ask them if it's cool if you want a month or so...and see if it starts to smell musty (like a basement)...but then you run the risk that the smell might not go away with just a new carpet. If it wasn't that wet and has dried quickly, you should be OK.

if it is just water, be sure they at least get the carpet 100% dry, it shouldn't stain. if you start to get a musty smell it would be best to go back and replace it.

but a good thing to do is get them to put it down in writing that they will replace the carpet if it starts to smell.

Does it have any smell now?

If they were to allow you to give it a couple weeks like POWERFREAK said that would be the thing to do if it doesn't smell at all now.

If there is ANY smell now, I would change it. It could get into all of the upholstery as time goes on.

As for the job and workman ship, It is a pain-in the but, however almost all of the work they do is and it should come out just fine. That is why people don't just do it there selves.
