Fuel Warning

Question to the team. When I reach 44 miles left on my tank, I get a low fuel warning in the center console. From this point forward, i'm completely clueless as to the miles remaining.

I'm used to a light coming on and the miles counting down to zero - then typically I have about 30 left. It's the same for this car but there's no indication. I've started to just set the trip 2 odometer at that point to zero and counting up to 44 but I was wondering if this is a common complaint and has it always worked this way?

I hate that too. My guess is its because it may not be accurate at that low and they don't want someone saying "it said I had 4 miles left and I ran out of gas" or something. Just my guess.

Thanks - I know - I contributed to that. Still, it doesn't take the lunacy out of the warning. Ok, ok, I know, there are more important things to worry about.

It means STOP FOR GAS!

Its not good to run your fuel that low. Very bad for fuel pump. If you get that warning, it should be priority to get fuel. The SS is the same way.

Yup! I don't let her get below 1/4 tank for that reason plus sucking up any crap from the bottom of the tank.

I've never seen it either, but of course I never drive with less than a quarter tank.

When the indicator needle hits the 1/4 tank remaining mark, it's a priority for me to get more fuel. I know lots of people who think nothing of continuing to drive even after the needle pegs on E. To me, that's just asking to run out of gas. I've heard running out of gas on modern fuel injected cars is not the same easy fix it used to be when cars had carburators.

Any comments on what it takes to get a modern fuel injected car back on the road after an episode of fuel exhaustion?
