Squeaky Steering Wheel

My steering wheel seems to squeak whenever I make turns and it is becoming annoying. It is not a high pitch squeak, more of a low squeak that is continuous until I stop turning. Anyone else have this problem?

RS_2LT_SummitWhite11,

Sorry to hear of your steering wheel squeak concerns. I understand that you must be displeased by this occurrence. Have you considered a service appointment to have this inspected? I'd be more than happy to schedule one for you. Feel free to message us if you need further assistance!

Mine has just started doing this as well. It's the airbag clockspring. It was a common issue with the Fords, and even after replacing the clockspring the noise would come back. I'm going to live with mine.

Gm has had an issue with the squeak noise coming from the steering racks. The noise travels up the column and almost sounds like its coming from higher up than the rack. The seal they use to seal the rack input shaft gets some deposits in it and hardens a little bit. On some of the vehicles the problem is so bad that the not offer just the seal housing instead of the entire steering rack and tell you to flush out all the P/S fluid in favor od Dex6 trans fluid (trans fluid is hydraulic fluid too....but with a **** ton more detergents to keep things clean).

Without looking at the vehicle, I cannot say for sure that is the issue. But from what you describe, that is where I would start my investigation.

The steering rack was inspected recently when I had the car serviced at the same time for sunroof issues. They could not find anything wrong - however the service man did hear a light squeak at times when turning. For now they put down the information in notes - so that if in the future the problem gets worse - then they will take a look at it again to repair etc...
