I've had my 10 2SS/RS for 4 years and my key has disintegrated...

I noticed cracks forming around the buttons a few months ago and it started getting worse and worse until today when I got out of my car and the button mashed all the way into the key. It doesn't work any more and I didn't abuse it more than any other normal person would. Had it on a carabiner for most of the time where it hung off of my belt loop until this year when I put it on a lanyard and it lived in my pocket.

Has anyone else had this happen?

Also long time no see for those of you who remember me lol

I have never seen that happen to a key fob, BUT I have a theory on what might have caused it. Some people have weird body chemistry, your skin could have over time broken down the plastic on the key fob. My dad has excessive iron levels from a welding disease he has, and anything metal that he touches will rust or make a spot where he touches it.

Looks like it suffered when it was swinging around on the carabiner. You'd be surprised how much wear that will cause as it rubs on your pants or even in your pocket. Especially when it is "living" with other keys on the same ring. I see a lot of wear on the face of the release button...

I have only the house key on mine and always fold it away from the face of the fob when I put it in my pocket...

Yea I'm going to see what I can do to get a replacement. For the meantime I'm just using my second key. I guess I can get 4 years out of that one haha

You wouldn't happen to be by anything creating ozone? I believe the rubber pad is made of nitrile rubber, and nitrile HATES ozone.
