Oil Life Monitor feature

Hello to all,

Today I was looking how to access my OLM from my 2013 Camaro RS BUT from the "DIC" I can't fiind it as I scroll through the menu. Any one tell my how to check the percentage or do I just wait until the system tells me when yo change the oil?

The dealer told me, and I think about everyone here agrees, don't use the oil monitor to judge you oil changes. I use 5000 miles, which I think is what the dealer suggested. I forget how to check it offhand, OnStar is still sending me updates, even though I cancelled, so that's how I've seen mine. If I trusted it, it would say about 11000 miles between oil changes

...and the dealer sells oil changes.

We've had this conversation pop up in threads more than once on here.

Going by the oil life monitor won't hurt a thing.
Neither will changing your oil every time you get gas.

patriotpa,

Thank you for your posting. Allot of people don't trust the OLM but I do. I just ask the dealership to use a top notch synthetic oil and go the distance.

My only issue is that from the DIC I can't figure out how to access the reading of percentage left using the stalk on the left and schrolling through the menu. I can always wait until On Star give me a reading but I much prefer to access it myself.

Cam anyone tell me how to do it? I've read the manual but it says nothing I can find that tells me how to access the reading.

There are 2 diff menus available. There is a button on the face of the stalk (facing you) that switches between them.

hypurone,

I'll have to look into this in more detail when I get a chance. In a couple weeks I'm takiing my Camaro to Arizona with a buddy for a trip to open up the engine a little. Just would be nice if I can monitor my OLM on the way.

Yep, just have to click the button on the stalk to switch between the 2 menus available.

My interior shot that I took of the car a while back unfortunately has the steering wheel in the way, but it is located on the stalk where this blue box is.

It's also how you can view other items, such as coolant temp, and tire pressures too.

ChibiBlackSheep,

I tried schrolling through that menu using that switch and still couldn't find the OLM feature. I'll take a close look when the maddness dies down.

I have used the OLM on every vehicle I've ever owned that's had it. I can say with confidence that I've NEVER had an oil-related issue with any of those vehicles. I've done regular level checks, and topped off when needed, but other than that...

On average, though, it's around 6500 miles when the life left gets "low enough" to worry about. Oil was dark gold in color when changed, but nothing black and nasty. But it's been all Mobil 1 and either a mobil 1 or Wix or GM filter. No issues, so no need to change brands.
