Camaro ZL1 Priced from $54,095

Quote:
Chevrolet has announced pricing of their 2012 Camaro Zl1 at $54,095. Chevrolet claims that the car compares favorably to more expensive cars like the Audi R8 GT, Mercedes-Benz SLS and Maserati Gran Turismo, which cost between $122,800 and $196,800 based on available performance.

Of course, that suggestion is laughable, as those cars would never be cross-shopped and their respective demographics likely have a mutual enmity. By comparison, rivals like the Ford Shelby GT500 and Dodge Challenger SRT-8 392 retail for $48,645 and $42,780 respectively. The ZL1 will also hit 60 mpg in 3.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 184 mph.

Nice but priced too high. It should priced same as GT500. For $55k folks will be real tempted to pick-up a vette instead.

I'm still waiting for the 'vert.

Best I can see right now, depending on if I can pull off an employee EVA on one, that could be a good thing. But for estimating, I'll assume MSRP. I'm guesstimating around a 60K convertible price- I could be wrong- so I'm figuring I might have to borrow around 20-23K by saving this year's big fat bonus from work (as long as I don't get a 1-year jelly of the month club certificate), and trading in the current Camaro.

I'm assuming I can get about $25K on trade in with our car. Blue book says I should get 29K right now for it on trade, but I also know the car market isn't strong at the moment. I'm thinking I could probably sell it outright myself and fair a bit better. Absolutely nothing wrong with the car. I'm figuring I should be right around $400/month or so with a 60 month loan.

Yeah, I may not NEED all that HP...but what Camaro lover wouldn't want a ZL1 if they could pull it off???

2010 2SS/RS Auto, Sunroof, Engine Cover. Transformer Edition package.
2013 ZL1 ragtop #5478. 1 of 54 CRT M6 'verts.
