Next Generation Camaro Getting Turbo 4-Banger

There is no shortage of rumors for future Camaro engines, but apparently the next-generation car will ge getting a turbocharged 2.0 liter engine. This coincides with the rumor that the next Camaro will be riding on the lighter Alpha platform that is used on the Cadillac ATS, instead of the larger Zeta platform it currently uses.

Chevrolet would of course still offer V6 and V8 engines under the hood of the Camaro but they would also make use of a smaller option. Logic dictactes that it it would be an updated version of the LHU engine from the Buick Regal GS. That engine puts out 270hp and 295 lbs/feet of torque. It is an updated version of the LNF engine that put of 260 hp and 260 torque in the old Saturn Sky, Pontiac Solstice, Chevrolet HHR SS and Cobalt SS.

Those LNF engines could be chipped at GM to 300 hp and torque without hurting the warranty so expect at least that much power in a turbo, 4-cylinder Camaro.

The new Camaro is still several years away. For more info head over to Autoguide. is offline

The thought of a 4 banger Camaro, even if turbo charged, offends my sense of what a Camaro is all about. For those who want a 4 banger, there are plenty of them out there to be had. Leave the Camaro as a muscle car puhleez!

Eh, bring it on. As long as it's added to the stable, and not replacing anything, I don't see the harm.

Besides, ricers and hip-hop stars are already buying Camaros and turning them into.... well.... I'll be nice..... other things....

More Camaros on the road is good in my eyes. Brings the costs down of parts/mods/tires/etc....

I found $80 in my jeans pocket. The kid in me said "buy nerf guns and candy!" But then the adult in me said "buy vodka, nerf guns and candy!"

A 300hp 4 banger would be nice I guess. The more GM sells the better.

I know a while back I saw another rwd concept GM was thinking about building. The Code 130R. The 300hp, 4 cylinder would be a butt kicker for that class of car. imo

A lighter Alpha platform with a LHU would be nice. When the brother had his 2010 cobalt SS we tuned it for 22.5 PSI. It was stupid fast, with only 290whp and 340 ft/lbs. The main problem was the lack of traction in first and second. A RWD version more along the lines of the 130R concept would be great.

GM needs something like the BRZ/FRS. That car is one of the funnest vehicles I have ever driven, but it needs the LNF or LHU engine. Just include everything from the GM stage one kit, from the LNF, on the LHU, and it would be PERFECT in lighter Camaro or 130R sized car.
