Cool story about Denzel Washington's generosity to injured troops...

The Media (accidently) missed this one!!!!

The troops overseas would like you to send it to everybody you know.

Denzel Washington and Brooks Army Medical Center

Don't know whether you heard about this but Denzel Washington and his family visited the troops at Brook Army Medical Center, in San Antonio, Texas (BAMC) the other day. This is where soldiers who have been evacuated from Germany come to be hospitalized in the United States, especially burn victims. There are some buildings there called Fisher Houses.

The Fisher House is a hotel where soldiers' families can stay, for little or no charge, while their soldier is staying in the hospital. BAMC has quite a few of these houses on base, but as you can imagine, they are almost filled most of the time.

While Denzel Washington was visiting BAMC, they gave him a tour of one of the Fisher Houses. He asked how much one of them would cost to build. He took his checkbook out and wrote a check for the full amount right there on the spot. The soldiers overseas were amazed to hear this story and want to get the word out to the American public, because it warmed their hearts to hear it.

The question is...
Why do Brad Pitt, Madonna, Tom Cruise, and other Hollywood fluff make front page news with their ridiculous antics and Denzel Washington's Patriotism doesn't even make page 3 in the Metro section of any newspaper except the local newspaper in San Antonio? Remember this next time you walk up to the ticket window of your local movie theater with $10 (or more) in hand.

A true American and friend to all in uniform!

Much respect to Denzel for that. It's a shame most people never heard about this. Seems the front page news is always some celebrity getting arrested or adopting too many foreign offspring.

good story...wish there was A LOT more of that from celebs. Denzel does a ton of charity work. He's originally from Mt.Vernon, NY which is about 30 mins from me, he goes back there a lot, donates $$, makes appearances etc...

That being said the like of penn ,the band bush and so many more can give you dought in you do for your country but then then the likes of a Mr Washington and the the 100's of other stars who go other there or raise money for family's of soliders, marines, soilers or air force personnel hurt or killed in action. I always did like Denzel, but I had no idea about his charitable side. Stand-up guy for sure!

norwood...THANK YOU for your service and sacrifice.

I think there are lots of stars that do charity work, but don't necessarily want the press coverage, so not everyone hears about it. That said, there should be A LOT more of what Denzel did. For every 1 generous, caring celebrity, there's way too many self-centered-moron-celebrities out there.

My hat is off to Mr. Washington. Fisher House has an awesome program and does a tremendous service for our troops. These houses are sometimes the deciding factor on whether or not a soldiers family can be with them or not during their recovery. I do agree that not enough of the good stuff is put in front of the American peoples face. This is an awesome story but yet it took me looking on a Camaro forum to learn about it....nothing against this fine, outstanding forum but man it would have been nice to see on CNN, Fox News, MSNBC..etc, etc. I salute Denzel and thank him for his contribution to some of the finest men and women in the world. Hell, I may be in a situation where my family needs to use those services someday and I am glad there are people out there like the Fisher House organization and Mr. Washington.

He's such a great guy for doing that, and it's nice to see a celebrity make a donation because he cares, and not because he's doing to make himself look good. Unfortunately we live in a world where the most ridiculous things make the front page, instead of the things that make sense. Hopefully it'll change one day.
