LS2 question / advice

So I am looking for opinions / advice here from everyone. I went to a swap meet this weekend and think I stumbled across a good deal. I had stopped at a booth to look at a set of C6 wheels for my Camaro project car and noticed the guy had a posterboard with a picture of an engine on it. After reading it I ended up getting the guys name and telephone number to call him back, but want to ask what you all think first.

He has for sale a complete drivetrain with only 100 miles on it from an 04 or 06 GTO. It is the engine with all accessories, T56 transmission, computer, harness, slave cylinder and pedal assembly for $6500.00 out the door.

What was the factory HP and TQ ratings for this combination? How much of a difference would a cam swap make on this motor?

Sorry for all of the questions, but just thinking that this is a good deal.

Thanks in advance.

ls2's were in the 06 gto's
ls1's in the 04-05's

ls2 is rated at 400 horse stock, i think (meaning someone will correct me) that the ls1's were rated at or near 325 horse

'05 & '06 were both LS2s.

LS1 in the '04 GTO put out 350HP at the flywheel.

Visit http://thirdgen.org for all your third gen camaro and firebird questions.

Thanks.

Personally, I would drop in GM crate engine like a zz4...IMO it would be easier and cheaper.

I am registered over at 3rd gen. Just looking for information right now. The 350 c.i. engine has been removed from the 89 and was replaced with a 406 c.i. small block a little while back. The LS2 would be for my latest project I am working on. It would be going into the 73 I picked up a few months back. But that is not set in stone yet.

That LS2 carries a 400hp rating at the crank.

That's not a bad price for the engine/trans combo, especially with the harnesses, PCM, slave and pedals.

Depending on what cam you choose, you could pick up 60+HP with a cam.
Even a mild cam can add 40HP pretty easy.
.....both with a good tune of course.
