Question How Many Of You...

How many of you change your own oil? I'm just curious, because I was going to change my own oil for the first time yesterday as I thought it would be cheaper than taking it to my usual speedy lube place and having them do it.

Turns out, after realizing how much 5 quarts of oil and an oil filter were from O'Reillys($30), that's just $2 less than what I pay to have it done.

5 quarts of oil and an oil filter=$30 at O'reillys

Oil change at my local speedy lube=$32

I'm going to continue spending the extra $2 and taking it and having it done to save me the hassle and time.

In the camaro, I do it myself...8 qts of Mobil-1 get's expensive (I'll stock up when it's onsale at K-mart)...and don't drive it too much, so I'm just gonna change it every spring.

For my DD, I don't do it myself...quicker and easier to just let someone else handle it for the $35.

I will let someone else do it. I got 3 free oil changes with my Camaro so no need for me to do it either

I changed the Camaros myself. DD goes to the dealer. I have utilized the $39.95 Goodwrench oil change and tire rotation special many, many times.

I did change mine the first time but found it cheaper with the dealer and they do use mobil one in it. Also by using them, if something goes wrong they are heald responsible, no questions asked.

i have heard too many horror stories...

and i always use synthetic oil... which is cheaper to do yourself

I changed my oil once along with my Dad's friend who showed me all the tips and tricks to make sure everything goes smoothly.

IMO, The DD/beater can go to the shop, your "real" car should always be done by you.

I've taken mine to the same place for the past 4 years and the same 3 guys have changed my oil every time. They seem to know what they are doing, and I trust them.

Plus, we always bull**** about my car while they are doing it.
