I need to vent...

I am sure most of you have heard of the tragic passing of Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili. This was such a tragic event with it occurring during Olympic practice and on the day of Opening Ceremonies. The thing I need to vent over is the coverage of this tragic event. WHY, again WHY do news stations insist on showing this over and over and over again? I did not see it earlier in the day, I just happened to see the coverage of it after Opening Ceremonies, and here in Chicago, on NBC they showed the entire clip of what happened twice. Two more times than needed. From what my dad told me, earlier in the day when they showed it, they also showed it multiple times, however, it was worse then. They actually showed paramedics giving him chest compressions. WHY is that necessary? WHY!? This is one reason I choose to NOT watch the news. All they ever cover is tragic stories, RARELY do they ever cover the miracles, or things people are doing to improve society, the town, etc. I believe if news stations covered more of this, they would receive more viewers. I know many people who refuse to watch the news for the same reasons as I. I know others that 'put up with it,' others that 'dont care' and hardly anyone who watches specifically for those heart wrenching tragic stories. Now, I am not saying they shouldn't cover them at all, but I am saying they should cover less AND to NOT SHOW what caused these tragic events. I don't know about any of you, but I know if I went out and it happened to be filmed, I would NOT want it plastered all over the news like this was... Its disgusting that people find that worthy of air time, showing someones death, THAT IS JUST WRONG!

/end rant

I agree 100%. Why show the accident? Makes absolutely no sense.

Sure, show him on the track and other pics of him, but the accident itself should be completely off limits.

During the olympics, during the news, it's everywhere - and completely unnecessary.

I saw this while looking for news on other things and I felt like a horrible person for thinking of the pistol when I saw "Luger".

Better than "lunger" I suppose.

But tragic or upsetting events sell the news. Always has, and always will. Plain and simple. For whatever reason, humans have some propensity for rubber-necking to the morbid events of human tragedy.

Rubberneckers..gah...always makes me wish I had a old Chevy with a big snowplow on the front so I could shove them out of the way.

For what ever reason it is in the human nature to see the blood, you could have a simple accident on the side of the highway but everyone has to slow down to see if they can see blood. Not one is using the cell phone plastered to their ear to call for help. This is always the case with the news and the reason the news ans TV shows have gotten worse, as we grow immune to the site of blood and gore they (the networks) decide to show us more. The thing that happens next is even more out of hand, next their will be a mass amount of items left either at the accident site or at the grave.....WHY????? The last place i want anyone to remember me is at the place that i die. I want to be remembered for the good times and things i did, not at some accident scene with stuff all over to distract other people. Really it boils down to our fault and our founding fathers, we have always had blood shed and glorified it from our beginning.

I agree...tragic. Can someone tell me why those big steel beams have no padding on them? Dunno if it would have saved him, but maybe he would have had a chance. Seems like common sense to me.

Effin news media sucks. Remember how many months (and longer) the footage of 9/11 was plastered all over the TV??? I still can't see that without getting nauseous.

I agree with you Dave. I watched it also on NBC, and flipped it back and forth with the Canadian channel. I thought showing the accident was in poor
taste. It was extremely sad, and I feel for his family.
I like Matt Lauer, that's why I watched it on NBC too.

The best way to stop it is to email them that you dont want to see it. I know it sounds stupid but if everyone that feels this way maybe it will change the opinions and the networks will change as well.. And the other easy way is to change the channel. If no one watchs they will stop showing it. I hate it all.. I cant tell you the last time I picked up a paper or watched the news.. Its a was of air time and paper..
