Duty, Brokerage Fees and Shipping from the States

so i am building my parts list of what i am wanting to buy for my car in the next few weeks and shocking everything that i want is going to be coming out of the states

now i have heard some absolute horror stories with getting nailed on duty and brokerage fees for certain things

that being said i have a "parts pimp" that is willing to work with me to get everything across the border as a gift

so what i'm wanting to know is there somewhere that i can go to research how the duty, brokerage fees, taxes etc work?

if i can save some grief on my super duper parts pimp that would be great, but if this is going to cost me an arm and a leg to get it through the border then i have no problem rerouting to alabama and paying dual shipping lol

welcome to alberta we eat cow, drill oil and rope calves

wants to push you down a flight of stairs to see if you are like a slinky or if you bounce like a ball... either way, I am quite sure I will be amused

Kitty, make the supplier track all that info down for you, they should be able to tell you how much extra it is to ship to you if they want your business any way. If they do not respond, or do not respond quickly and seem like they are blowing you off that is a good sign of what is to come once you give them your cash. If they don't care enough to give you a comprehensive quote now, how are they going to treat you when they have your cash in hand!?

are they able to tap into how much the border will charge for brokerage and duty?

cuz i can't even find that information right now

i have called a couple places and they can't even give me exact shipping quotes the best i can get when i tell them i need it shipped to canada is them asking how close i am to ontario

it's so frustrating cuz i have spent so much time researching what i want to buy, but i can't get the exact figures of what it's going to cost to ship it here

I think anyone that tells you they can ship to Canada should have done the reasearch and if not they should pay for what ever they miss. Get them to give you a quote in writing, with all applicable taxes, shipping and handeling TO YOUR ADDRESS. Then when there is a "suprise" charge shove it down their throughts, just make sure you are clear in telling them you want a TOTAL quote, all inclusive, and to put it in writing.

find an adress somewhere just across the border from you that will will let you ship stuff there, order everything so it shows up on the same day from the same shipping company, throw it all in the back of your dually, and smuggle it across the border!

Garage
Have it shipped to someone in the States, then drive there and install.
Or...have someone w/a V6 Camaro install on his car, drive to your place, and swap parts.

Kitty,

I have bought literally 100's of parts from the states for my "older babies" and the best thing you can do is to have them sent via USPS. Quite often, I wasn't charged any GST/PST (maybe customs was too busy or something). Regardless, I've never been overcharged going that route. You want to talk horror brokerage fees, just send the stuff UPS and see how they nail you.
