Road trip TAPE job

So I was talking to my buddy about driving the Camaro from WI to NJ when I pick it up from Scotty in a few months. I told him that I can't wait to drive her home but I'm going to HATE all the bugs and rock chips I'll acquire during the trip. He suggested that I use "blue painters tape" to cover the front end just for the 2 day drive. Apparently it works really good and leaves no glue residue, but looks pretty stupid.

Honestly, I dont care if the SS looks silly for 48 hours if it saves me a ton of heart ache.

What do you guys think?

Why not do it right the first time and get a clear bra? Maybe Scotty has someone in the area he recommends. My dealer did.

Seems like you are giving yourself lots of aggravating work, while making your car look like a Mexican Wrestler.

Sure it might give you peace of mind, but for me the clear bra I added does the same thing. Not to mention it lasts a lot longer.

For a trip like that, use the green painters tape. It'll stick better, and it's a little thicker, ensuring that you won't get rock chips (I've seen chips through the blue tape).

And congrats on yor car

Dooo eeet man! I guarantee you'll get so many questions and people might be thinking you're hiding something new from GM!

It'd be fun. Take pictures, and years from now, what stories can be told.

Anybody can go get a clear bra. That's unimaginative. Save that for when you get home.

i used blue tape to protect my front end a couple weeks ago when i took a 1100 mile round trip to houston for thanksgiving... looks funny but sure does help!

since your going to be on a longer haul on unknown roads, use the green painters tape.

i also have one of these, i just taped the areas around this i felt needed protecting:

I think the clear bra is something for the future. Maybe after a good Adam's polishing?

Tape = $7 and quick
Clear bra = ? few hundred bucks?

No Congratz needed yet. order won't be placed until next month. (waiting on the tax return and company bonus)

People look at all wrong. Your car wears chips and scratches as badges of honor and memories of good times. Thats how I look at it anyways. I personally think it looks stupid to do that. There were some guys at the lsx shootout that didnt want to get rubber on their quarter panels and had them taped up. Like their car was too good for a burnout. LOL. [/rant]

Anyways, I would go with a clear bra if that was a real concern.

I can dig the whole badge of honor thing. But this will be my first new car, I'd like to cling on to the shiny new car-ness as long as possible.

I can certainly clear bra it in the future when I have $ for mods.
