I'm going to miss this aspect from military to civillian transition...

I can say in my heart of hearts - THIS was a TRUE military family. Best working experience ever in my military career. Each and every one took care of each other - even if one didn't like the other. It is a shame I may never get another chance to work with folks like these again. In the military you are always lectured "think of the military as your second family..." Never has that ever occured untill working with these folks here.

That is the one sad aspect I am dreading about transitioning to civillian - the sense of comradely and "brotherhood" will be truly missed. You don't have this in the civillian sector. Those who have never served will never understand that sense of bond and kinship.

With all the ups and downs with the military lifestyle - when you finally get a group you work long hours with and deal with different personalities and have those highs and lows and still come out strong as a team... That is something that you walk away with always remembering - and will be sorely missed.

Changing your direction in life is never easy and always comes with some loss. Knowing that you have friends that have your back is a wonderful thing. But if you're a good person and treat people nice...like you do Joe...there will always be new friends waiting around the corner.

I'm sorry that you are losing the people who mean so much to you...and a career that has been your life. But you are on a path that will lead to bigger and better things. And the power of positive thinking is a wonderful quality that will only bring good things your way.

I know it sounds a little corny...but I believe...when life gives you lemons...it's time to make lemonaid.

Good luck Joe!

Thanks for your service and good luck..I know when I left the Air Force it was a big change, some for the better and some not. Just remember to stride forward, believe in your self, and be proud of your accomplishments.

Your service to our country is very much appreciated. You will make the transition just fine. You will find good people to surround yourself with. The skills you have learned, the realization that there is no I in the word team will take you farther in life than you realize.

It is kind of a big adjustment. I retired 3 years ago from the service. I spent 24 years in the Air Force 16 active duty and 8 years reserve and miss the heck out of the close knit family that develops from the military. I don't think I will ever find that again in a job.

I only spent 7 and half years in the Army but time in service definitely sticks with you. I still keep in contact with a few of my good buddies and there is not a day that goes by that I do not think of the good ole days. I decided after I got out that I flipped over to be a DA Civilian so I still work for the Army just supporting those that serve us.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone and their support. Right now I'm going over the most ridiculous of headaches with medical and ensuring my MEB paperwork is accurate. I might have to get a military attorney and fight it in San Antonio. Either way I'm getting medically retired - it's just the doctors half assed some of my paperwork.
