Mexican Coca-Cola

I was headed to the Laundromat this morning and stopped at the corner store to grab a bottle of pop and some jerky when I noticed Coca-Cola in a full size glass bottle. This is something I haven't seen on a regular basis in nearly 20 years, Coca-Cola citing a lack of market for glass bottles in this region, so I grabbed a couple bottles and went on my way. it wasn't until I cracked open the bottle that I noticed the lableing was slightly different... it was bottled in Mexico.

From what I've read this has been fairly common in southern states for some time now, but it has just recently become prevalent in the Great Lakes Region. Here's an article from the NY Times on the subject...

Consumed - The Cult of Mexican Coca-Cola - NYTimes.com

It does taste different, maybe even better, since it's made with cane sugar instead of corn syrup.

That is how most drinks down there are, recently got back from cancun and all the coke and sprite orange diet etc were all in glass bottles at stores.

I believe like many that sugar instead of corn syrup makes a difference. They don't have the corn lobby and subsidies in Mexico so they are free to use use cane sugar as the sweetener.

Still legal in 16 states. It's happy. It's fun. It's Happy Fun Car.

Pepsi and Coke stopped using glass bottles because they didn't want the expense of getting the bottles back and washing them. Plastic and aluminum are cheaper.

This reminds me of a video I found yesterday. Check this out. It's really cool.

I've seen a couple of those clips before, but never the entire interview lime that... good stuff.

I wish Coke would go back to using sugar instead of corn syrup... there are some that say the "New Coke" debacle in the 80's was intentional so that no one notice the switch from sugar to corn syrup when "Classic" Coke was reintroduced.
