Things that make me choke on my coke

Sooo, I'm on another forum (which shall go nameless for the moment but it's for Hondas) AnYwaY..... a kid on there posts a thread titled "My current dream car... so close to affordable" In it he states that he and his dad are considering trading his dad's '67 Camaro and the kids daily driver in for a 2000 Lotus Esprit. Nice car, twin turbo and all but am I wrong in thinking that trading in a '67 for anything is nuts? I told the kid to sell it outright. When I worked at Acura, they didn't like the classics because they can't sell them. They go straight to auction. Trading in a '67. Not selling. Trading.

Maybe I just get emotional over the Camaros.

Still a wannabe.

Wow. Um. Yeah, wow.

Anyone considering trading in a 67 Camaro... or any classic car for that matter... needs to be put out of their misery.

I would hope so anyway. An Esprit is a nice car but I wouldn't trade a 67 Camaro for it. Then again I wouldn't trade a 67 Camaro for much except maybe a 69 .

Ask them how much they would get on the trade-in for it... (I dont think it will be that much), and then offer them a little more and buy it.

Apparently not. Guess I just have too much respect for the car. It amazes me how dense some people really are. The funniest part, the Lotus is about as unreliable as a car can get. The kid is crying about his interior in the Civic (hello? It's a Civic) being crap. This just sounds to me like some suburbanite kid trying to keep up with the Jone's kids. He's in Lake zurich for all you Chicago area folks. If you see the '67 out on the road in that area.... well...

They're lucky I don't live there anymore. I'd find his butt and lecture him until he was in tears and begging for forgiveness. Then again, I just have an evil side like that.

Still a wannabe.

Hmm, a buddy of mine lives in Lake Zurich.
I should have him scope out the area for a driveway containing a 67 Camaro and a Civic, and when he finds it to hold the Camaro hostage until they promise not to trade it in at a dealer lol.

I would do it myself, but Lake Zurich is over an hour from where I live.

Trading in a classic? Both he and his dad are out of their minds if they think they'll get anywhere near fair value at a dealer.

Personally, I wouldn't swap a 'Maro for an Esprit in the first place, but if he really wants to, he's much better off patiently finding a private buyer who'll not only pay the right price, but also treat the car properly. (I can only afford to do the latter, so if they're giving it away, I'll come pick it up. )

Formerly defunct.

Maybe he didn't mean 'trading in' like you would do at most dealerships out there. Maybe he was selling it and buying the Lotus?

Maybe the Lotus dealer also deals in classics, then it wouldn't be a traditional trade in deal like most of us think.

Some are getting a little riled up having so little information
