Back story for those who weren't here when this saga started. Early 2001 bought a 2000 Z28, 05 paid it off took a loan out on it and sank 12K into it, (all bolt-ons, cam kit, trans/stall, moser 9" etc). Had an accidental overrev (got dropped into 2nd gear at 80 MPH with 4.11's) valves kissed the pistons grenading it. Dealt with my ****ty Tercel DD for 3 months before buying my 05 GTO rather than using the money to rebuild my Z28. I've been stuck paying payments (3 autos), changing priorities (Guns and building other vehicles) honey do lists and have not ben able to do much to the Z28 since. Until now. The Z28 is again paid off (not to be financed again) other bills in line and priorities realigned so I bought some parts.
Scored a complete LS1 off craigslist a few months back that someone pulled to build a stroker to drop in an old 5.0. They ran out of funds and sold the engine (disassembled already) cheap $750. Looks like it had less than 100K, still has crosshatches and the bearings could have probably been reused.
Anyway only thing I needed to get my Z back on the road now was rings, bearings, an intake (sold the LS6 I had), and head bolts, the guy I bought the motor from had everything else. While I was at it I got a new oil pump and ARP rod bolts. So now it's time to reassemble my LS1 and put my long down Z28 back to it's former menacing self!!
Mod list includes Moser 9" with 31 spline axles, detroit locker in nodular center section, Tubular SFC's, LCA's, tubular adjustible PHR and torque arm, Fully built 4L60E with 3600 vigilante stall, Magic stick 3 cam kit (hardened pushrods, dual springs, titanium retainers), LS2 chain, LS6 intake, 42# injectors, racetronix 255 pump, pacesetter headers, true duals and flowmaster 1 chambers a probably a few I forgot. Going back with the same combo which was tuned so I don't have to retune it. Just got to find the time to get to it !!!
