Still Alive for now

I had Surgery November 30th to have my tonsils and Uvula removed. They should have been removed years ago. I knew that 1 or 2% of adults die from this procedure. After not winning the big Powerball jackpot I thought I might be ok with the gamble.

I had complications from my surgery. I woke up last Friday and was bleeding at an incredible rate. I was taken to the ER. The bleeding actually stopped by itself and I was monitored for about 4 hours and released. Saturday, while taking a nap, it started again. This time it would not stop.

My small town hospital ER was dealing with a Code Blue (Heart attack I think) and 2 Lifeline helicopter flights for some critical auto accident patients they were stabilizing. An additional surgical team was called in for my emergency surgery. I about bought the farm last weekend. I'm still around, but I'm not myself yet. I'm still in serious danger of bleeding to death until I heal back up.

My Dr. has a very good reputation. He told me that in the many years he has been doing this that I am only his 3rd patient that has every had to have a emergency surgery after. I'm not a bleeder and the nurses commented on how I did not bleed when receiving shots, doing blood work, etc. My IV lead that they put in me had to be cleared because my blood clots very well.

So, I will be back more when I get feeling a little better. I do have trouble sleeping since both times I started to bleed to death was in my sleep.

Holy Crap Ron! This is all terrible news and I'm sooooo glad you survived. This has not been a good year for you and I'm so sorry that this happened too. A good friend of mine needed the exact same surgery back in August and he did not want to go through with the surgery because he was afraid of the possible complications. I begged him to get the surgery because his doctor said he had about a 10% chance of dying (due the the constant infections) without the procedure...but I did not realize how serious the complications could have been so now I understand his fear. Thankfully he got it done and he pulled through just fine and I hope and pray that you do too.

This place would never be the same without you here so take care of yourself and keep us posted on your progress. And I totally understand your inability to sleep now...but I have some advice that might help...only sleep while sitting up like in a lounge chair or propped up on a lot of pillows. When you were sleeping...your throat was down at your heart level which is what prompted the bleeding so if you get tired just take a nap sitting up which will keep your wound well above your heart and give it a chance to heal properly.
