My franken mufflers

Money was a little tight right now and I have been wanting a new exhaust for the GTO because it seems too tame. Since they bolt on/off I took them off to check them off. Then I remembered My brother has a mig welder and a Sawzall while looking at a post on a mustang forum about modified new mustang mufflers. So I cut mine open to assess the situation. What I found kind of shocked me for a performance oriented car with 400 hp. A 5 chamber muffler with a hugely restrictive entrance into chamber 3.

Pay no attention to the big tube at the top. It does not allow anything to pass into chamber 3. Once it enters into 3 it goes into that tube then back to chamber 1 which is bypassed apon entry. What was suprising to me is that the small hole in the bottom right and the small holes ( in the bottom center are the only entrance into chamber 3. The small 1/2 inch diameter tube is a bypass to 4. Bottom line there is maybe a total of 1 1/2 inch diameter of flow and this is the passenger side. The driver side does not have the small holes. It only had the small hole in the bottom right and the bypass tube for flow so it has maybe one inch diameter flow area. 400 HP has to breathe through those tiny passages, amazing.

Well, I removed that wall and the one next to it making my mufflers in essence 3 chamber that is straight through with nothing in the path of the entrance/exit pipes no snaking around chambers. Sounds good to me and increased performance very noticably along with mpg. And best of all free.

Clip of the sound .

That is tempting to do, just have to put the project in line with everything else.

Wow, that sounds good.
Sounds very similar to a loudmouth, but maybe a tick more aggressive.
