I'm really fired-up about getting my new Camaro. I ordered a 2SS with the 6-speed manual. The one thing that concerns me (other than the payments) is the skip shift. I don't like the idea of the computer limiting which gears I can shift into.
My questions are:
Does the competitive mode disable the skip-shift?
If it dosen't, would overriding the skipshift viod the warranty?
Thanks, I sometimes employ a "brisk" driving style. In which case the skip-shift probably won't activate. I'll more than likely buy the skip-shift eliminator anyway. I just feel that manuals should be manual. I know what gear that I want to be in and I often skip-shift on my own.
I actually like the skipshift - have been used to it since the first "CAGS" on a 96 Z28. In my GTO and my Z28s, it almost never activated, because I always short-shift into second unless I'm doing a starsky & hutch burnout.
Both short-shifting and hammering in 1st gear disables the skipshift.
In stoplight / sluggish traffic I intentionally let the skipshift engage - I find it convenient in that situation.
Also, I bet you'll be able to disable the skipshift with a resistor and a couple of wirenuts anyway? And some duct tape!
I know of the other skip shift eliminator - pedal to the metal!
