When I bought my '10, I declined the "special" they were running on their undercoat/interior/paint protection package. Is it really worth the $300 or so they charge for this? Is this a sucker dealer add on or is it really going to help protect against rust, weather, etc?

no!

the entire body is already coated in an anti-rust protection beneath the paint and primer.

this step has been integrated in most modern vehicles before paint and before the vehicle is even delivered to the dealership

YES! but not for the price they offer! (For rustproofing only) NOT PAINT AND INTERIOR - you can do this yourself.

I see rustproofed trucks coming in perfect, and non-rustproofed trucks coming in with holes. You driving in salt? If so - how long do you want your car to last....?

My dealership did offer a Scratch & Dent policy that costs $799.00. It covered any scratch or dent smaller than a credit card. I purchased this coverage when I bought my car. However, when the dealership's P & B was unable to match the SGM paint to my expectations...I cancelled the coverage and received a refund.

I bought it on my truck, for $500 but mainly for the under-carriage because it didn't have a very good under coating from the factory so it was worth it (not the cost), I wished I would of been their tho.... the guy sprayed every where and didn't mask any thing underneath
The interior I could of done on my own too, it wasn't worth what I payed them but it got done, quality products but not quality work IMO

Upsell upsell upsell

Scratch warranty? lol Never heard of that?
When I picked up my car, the lady business manager had just sprained her ankle...Thank God....
They wanted to sell me paint protection, on a car that GM had been taking from show to show.. Don't think it was already slicked up pretty well?
How about the " security package" They stick stickers on the doors, and trunk, and under hood for $400.00

I sold cars for 7 years They teach upsell upsell upsell upsell

My friend in New Brunswick has been trying to buy a 2011 Cruise They found a car at another dealer, and were "sticking" him for $235.00 for locking nuts and $100.00 for MUD flaps.. He told them to shove it...

Ever heard of selling a car on a "bump" Here in Ontario, if you sign a deal, you are on the hook, but the sale is not sold, unless approved by a manager... They sign you up, take a deposit, you think you bought a car!1 You tell your friends... They call you up the next day, and bump the deal 700-1000 lol

and how about the administration charges? Do all the dealerships NOT pay the girls in the office?? another upsell

and how about destination charges???? When you buy a hat at Walmart , do they add destination charge at the checkout????
it all upsell upsell

The business managers get you for 1200-2000 per deal after you thought you got a good deal lol

If they do that, demand your money back and then walk out! Don't let them scam you like that. Always be ready to walk out. You would be surprised at how good this works. The price amazingly comes down the minute you get up and head for the door. If they want to sell a car they don't want to see you get up and walk away. Try it next time and you will see for yourself.

The rust protection that the factory uses is called ELPO the car /truck is dipped in an ELPO tank then run through an ELPO oven to dry then primer and paint, but as most know where they buy and produce the body panels is a diffrent story, that being said every metal car will form some type of rust some where with or without the so-called dealer protection plan, since GM overs the best bumper to bumper plan just tell the dealer to stick it!!!!

Scotch guard works well IMO, for any cloth or flooring/carpet :D
