Got an engine light so I run her over to the dealer she had 421 misfires on cyl, 3 a cracked block 878 miles. What are the odds? Looks like new engine in 3-4 days.

rustyz,

Sincere apologies to read about the check engine light. Although I understand any displeasure in this, it's great that you've proactively reached out to your dealer for an official diagnosis. Feel free to keep us posted on the process if possible, and feel free to message me privately if additional assistance is needed.

That's great news.. I wonder if that affects the value of your Camaro.. having a new motor or not .. even if its on GM ??

Yea.. tho if GM does a V4 or S4.. then that changes every thing.. plus, I do believe most still do ask.. unless its been heavily MODDED ;)
Plus resale.. will show.. the motor being replaced.. because its reported by GM :(

Its good that you got a great dealer.. hope they keep their word, the main thing is that your happy ;)
Tho, if it was me, I'd get the dealer to trade me to another one, just to be on the safe side.. things always happen & at the end.. its best to cover your toosh than hoping someone your not 100% sure will IMO :)

Its rare but it happens. It has to do with the way they sleeve the blocks.

The old way they would cast the block and bore it out for an interference press-fit steel sleeve. This is ok but as the block heats up the aluminum expands at about twice the rate of the steel so the sleeves would get a little loose.

The way they make these newer HO v6's is that the heat the sleeves up and pour the cast around the sleeve that way when it up to temp the sleeve is still pretty tight to the alum casting...but when it cools down the alum can crack since the alum shrinks twice as fast as the steel sleeve.

...If happens every once and a while, but not very often, but this is a prime example of why they put warranties on new cars.
